Young soldiers participate in the "Semester in the Army" program in 2025.

Over the past years, the program "Semester in the Army" of Thanh Hoa province, organized by the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union in coordination with Regiment 266, Division 341, Military Region 4, has attracted thousands of young people between the ages of 9 and 17.

Participating in the program "Semester in the Army", young soldiers will be equipped with basic knowledge about the tradition of the Vietnam People's Army, about military science, training in discipline, order, physical strength, independence, team spirit... In addition, the topics: "Friendship, love of school age"; "Good words - Good deeds - Civilized behavior"; "Active self-study is the foundation of passion and creativity"... are thoroughly trained in "Semester in the Army" is not only a program for the summer, but also a comprehensive educational model, helping students practice physical strength, life skills and personality.

In the training environment of Regiment 266, the young soldiers experienced a completely different life from their usual life. Together they entered a new environment, with high discipline, order and far from daily conveniences such as television, telephone... At exactly 5:30 am, the alarm clock signaled the start of a new day. The young soldiers will be trained from small tasks such as folding blankets neatly, arranging their internal affairs neatly, participating in physical training, military skills, eating on time, group activities and life skills education ... These seemingly simple things are the first lessons in discipline, neatness and responsibility for oneself.

After completing the 10-day Military Semester training course, Le Trung Hieu (10 years old) in Nguyet Vien ward, shared: “On the first day, I missed home very much. In the following days, I started to get used to it, I actively participated in the activities according to the regulations, woke up to fold my own blankets, wash my own clothes, learned first aid; lessons on terrain crossing; lying down shooting, kneeling shooting, standing shooting... I felt like I had matured a lot, I started to understand why and how to live better every day.”

In particular, the new point of this year's program is to train the "future owners of the country" in skills in using artificial intelligence AI, Chat GPT to help soldiers integrate into the new era... Thereby, contributing to building a generation of advanced Vietnamese youth, rich in patriotism, with Vietnamese cultural qualities, dynamic, creative, stronger, more steadfast in life, ready to devote themselves to the homeland and country.

Mr. Nguyen Quan in Hac Thanh ward shared: "My family has two children who both participate in the "Semester in the Army" program. Every day, the family observes the children's activities through images updated on the fanpage. Seeing the children happy, enthusiastically participating, getting along with friends... my family is very reassured, and also a bit proud because the children have matured a lot."

Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial Youth Center Nguyen Anh Tuan said: The program "Semester in the Army" in 2025 attracted nearly 500 "young soldiers" to participate, divided into 2 sessions, each session lasting 10 days. Most of the students come from Thanh Hoa and some from other provinces and cities such as: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An, Ha Tinh... The new point of this year's program is the adjustment of training content based on parents' wishes to improve life skills and practical experience for their children. Accordingly, the time spent on life skills training activities such as self-care and teamwork has been increased. This change aims to bring children a practical and useful summer course".

From 2011 to now, nearly 10,000 young soldiers have participated in the program "Semester in the Army". From the program, lessons about discipline, friendship, gratitude, pride and the will to overcome oneself... have been written not only with pen and paper, but also with sweat, smiles and tears, helping to build and train independence, responsibility and solidarity in each "young soldier". These are also important educational values that families, schools and society all want to build.
