Farmers in Ha Tinh province continue to plant 50,000 hectares of spring rice.

According to the specialized agency of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Tinh province , from January 10th to 25th, nearly 50,000 hectares of rice will be planted throughout the province, accounting for 84.5% of the area for this year's spring rice crop.

Farmers in Ky Anh district are enthusiastically starting the 2024 spring crop production on large fields.

Mr. Phan Van Huan, Head of the Crop Production Department - Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), said: "For the 2024 spring crop, the entire province has a planned area of 59,107 hectares. The official planting season started on January 5th. In the first planting period (January 5-10), localities have already planted about 2,000 hectares. From January 10-25, about 50,000 hectares of spring rice will be planted, accounting for about 80% of the rice varieties and 84.5% of the area for this year's spring crop."

Specifically, from January 10th to 15th, localities will plant varieties such as Nhi Uu 838, Thai Xuyen 111, Nep 98, Nep 87, CT16... with an area of approximately 5,000 hectares. From January 20th to 25th, about 70% of the rice varieties planned for the 2024 spring crop will be planted within this timeframe, including: KD18, KD mutant, BQ, LP5, Bac Thinh, ADI28, ADI168, DT80, HD11, VR10, Ha Phat 3... (total area of nearly 45,000 hectares). This is also the peak planting season for localities focusing on large-scale, concentrated, high-quality rice production...

According to experts, the current favorable weather conditions, with sunshine and relatively high temperatures, have enabled localities to accelerate progress and complete their planting plans within the seasonal timeframe.

However, this year, the Great Cold period will fall on January 20th – the time predicted to have the highest frequency of severe cold weather of the year, coinciding with the planting schedule of some rice varieties. Therefore, the specialized department of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that localities should base their planting schedules on the growth time of each variety to arrange a reasonable planting season.

Specifically, varieties with longer growing periods should be planted at the beginning of the planting season, while varieties with shorter growing periods should be planted at the end. 100% of the seedling area must be covered with plastic sheeting according to proper technical procedures.

In addition, it is necessary to base the seed soaking and germination process on short-term weather forecasts to minimize damage caused by cold weather.
