In an interview with RIA Novosti on October 15, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said: “We are very proud that former President Trump often mentions his friendly relationship with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. They have a great relationship both personally and professionally. They had excellent cooperation during Trump’s presidency. Since then, they have maintained this relationship. From our perspective, it would be better for Hungary if Trump were re-elected.”

However, Mr. Szijjarto affirmed that Budapest will respect the choice of American voters regardless of the outcome of the US presidential election on November 5th.
In previous statements, Hungary's top diplomat emphasized that relations between his country and the US were strongest when Trump was in the White House and that the former Republican president's re-election would improve "the chances of ensuring peace in the world."
Mr. Szijjarto also condemned Trump's opponent, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, for her comments regarding the Hungarian Prime Minister. Last week, in an interview with CBS, Harris described Orban as a "dictator and autocrat."
“This is absurd. It is unacceptable to speak about our prime minister in this way. It shows a complete lack of respect for him and the Hungarian people,” the Hungarian foreign minister said, noting that Harris’s remarks “are certainly not the best start” to any future relationship.
