In an interview with RIA Novosti on October 15, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said: “We are very proud that former President Trump often mentioned his friendly relationship with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The two of them had an excellent relationship both personally and professionally. They had excellent cooperation during Trump’s presidency. Since then, they have maintained this relationship. From our perspective, it would be better for Hungary if Trump were re-elected.”

However, Mr. Szijjarto affirmed that Budapest will respect the choice of American voters regardless of the results of the presidential election in the land of the stars and stripes on November 5.
In previous statements, Hungary's top diplomat stressed that his country's relations with the US were strongest when Mr Trump was in the White House and that the former US Republican president's re-election would improve "the chances of securing peace in the world".
Mr Szijjarto also condemned Mr Trump’s rival, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, for her comments about the Hungarian prime minister. Last week, in an interview with CBS, Ms Harris described Mr Orban as “a dictator, an autocrat”.
“This is absurd. It is unacceptable to talk about our prime minister in such a way. It shows a complete lack of respect for him and the Hungarian people,” Hungary’s foreign minister said, noting that Harris’s comments were “certainly not the best start” for any future relations.
