On July 18, Dr. Le Thi Ha, Head of the ENT Department of Ha Tinh General Hospital, said that the unit had just performed endoscopic surgery to remove a nest of 7 maggots in the nasal cavity of a female patient.
Previously, on July 17, patient TTT (60 years old, residing in Ky Anh commune, Ha Tinh province) was taken by his family to the ENT department of Ha Tinh General Hospital for examination with symptoms of bleeding and discharge from the left nostril.
After examination, the doctors performed an endoscopy on the left nostril and discovered a suspected stone-like mass with a lot of bloody fluid. After draining all the blood, they discovered a suspected stone-like foreign object and a maggot nest in the nasal cavity.
Doctors then performed endoscopic surgery and removed 7 maggots, each 1 cm long and 0.2 cm in diameter; and removed the entire mass of stones.
After treating the maggot nest and the stone mass in the nasal cavity, the patient's health has stabilized and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.
After the maggot nest was removed from the nasal cavity, patient T's health has stabilized.

Ms. T.'s family said that 6 months ago, patient T. had a stuffy nose but did not go to the doctor but just bought salt water to rinse her nose. However, the condition did not improve but got worse.
Two days ago, the patient had bleeding and discharge from the left nostril so his family took him to the hospital.
Doctor Le Thi Ha said that this is a rare case, due to lack of attention to hygiene, along with a foreign body tumor in the nasal cavity, creating favorable conditions for larvae to develop into maggots. This patient was also subjective, not paying attention to the disease when there were unusual symptoms, until there was a maggot nest.
