Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice Chairman of the Board of FPT University, passed away on the afternoon of July 31. He was famous for his inspirational speeches to the community, especially the youth.
"There are many people who sit in the wrong place and choose the wrong career."
Sharing with The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper about choosing a school and a career, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien affirmed that society always needs young people to study continuously because technology and knowledge today are constantly changing. Therefore, the ability to self-study is very important, so that each person does not become… old.
He said, “There are many people who sit in the wrong place and choose the wrong career.” In reality, there are many people who choose the wrong school and the wrong career because when they start working, they realize that there is a big gap between their choice, their family’s wishes, and the reality of the market and their personal abilities.
“I think it’s okay, in this day and age we can learn by ourselves, learn for life. There are always opportunities for young people. People often ask me what young people need? They need a lot of things, but I think you have to remember three things. The first thing is the balance between attitude and qualifications. Qualifications can be high but if the working attitude and attitude towards people are not good, it is not okay. On the contrary, obedient employees are always considered to have a good attitude but if their capacity is not enough, their work efficiency will not be high. Therefore, balancing attitude and qualifications is one of the first things when going to work.
Second, businesses need enthusiastic and disciplined employees. In my opinion, every business needs young employees who are always enthusiastic and ready for all activities. Besides needing youthful energy, they also need discipline. The larger the business, the higher the discipline required, especially work discipline, cooperation discipline, and compliance discipline. However, these are weaknesses of many young people. Third, in the 4.0 era, creativity and the search for new things are always needed. Mr. Tien emphasized.
Regarding the reasons why young people are confused when facing the threshold of their career, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien said: Firstly, the university training program is still heavy on theory, not suitable for the requirements of the labor market, and does not have enough practice time for students to understand the actual work after graduation. Secondly, the students themselves have not invested properly in studying and developing the necessary skills.
"As always, society always needs you to have the ability to self-study for life, to continuously learn because technology and knowledge today are constantly changing. Therefore, the ability to self-study is very important, so that each person does not become... old." |
Third, you have not yet had access to the working environment of large and reputable businesses. Students should not just study without working part-time. However, you should allocate your study and work time reasonably and work part-time related to your major.
"We are living in the era of technology 4.0, society is constantly changing, businesses will also constantly change, expand their business scale, and experiment with new fields. They need their staff to be agile, flexible, and quick to learn. The generation of young people today does not just learn once and use it for life like the previous generation, they always have to learn new knowledge and skills to adapt and maintain their lives," Mr. Hoang Nam Tien emphasized.
According to Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, young people need to know how to balance attitude and qualifications, and need to have the ability to learn throughout life. (Source: FBNV) |
"The generation that is not afraid of artificial intelligence will rule the world"
In his speech at the "2024 Science and Technology Festival" held on January 14 in Ha Nam , Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice Chairman of the Board of FPT University, who has made many famous statements on social networks, said: "The generation that is not afraid of artificial intelligence will rule the world".
This expert predicts career trends in 2030 including industries such as: Computer Science, Marketing, AI (Artificial Intelligence), Big Data and Content Production. At the same time, he warns about 6 professions that will disappear in the next 5 years including: Teachers; Customer Service, Doctors, Pharmacists; Auditors, Accountants; Security Guards, Police; Experts.
Opening his speech at the technology festival, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien presented the image of a man who "carved himself from a rock every day, until he became the most beautiful statue".
Expert Hoang Nam Tien believes that this is also the image of students, lecturers and teachers today. If they do not "carve" themselves, study all their lives to become the best version of themselves every day, they will soon become ordinary people and very likely become mediocre people, not respected by society in the future.
According to Mr. Tien, about 2.7 million Vietnamese workers in industrial parks are at risk of losing their jobs due to the replacement of robots, the unemployment age will be extremely young, even under 25. Many industrial parks in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang have used robots to replace humans. One of the most modern factories in Vietnam for automobile production is using more than 1,000 robots for assembly, the ratio of robots here is higher than the number of workers. Therefore, to be able to take on new jobs, about 2.7 million workers will have to be retrained from scratch within the next 5-7 years.
"This is a reality happening in our country, not somewhere far away in the world. Artificial intelligence, typically ChatGPT, is gradually replacing humans. Specifically, about 40% of office workers, administrative staff will lose their jobs in the very near future. Even 85% of accountants may be at risk of losing their jobs in the future, accountants with more than 20 years of experience, working diligently, hard-working, and careful will also lose their jobs.
Office workers and human resources administrators will also lose their jobs because most provinces and cities are gradually transforming digitally, without using paper documents. Even in the profession of programmers, about 40% of computer software commands are being adjusted by artificial intelligence, without the need for humans. Becoming a better version every day is extremely necessary, helping to ensure long-term survival," said Mr. Hoang Nam Tien.
When asked which profession will decline the fastest in the future, Mr. Tien said that the profession that will disappear soon is accounting, followed by teaching. In about 7 years, teachers will be under great pressure because they will be replaced by artificial intelligence and robots. Therefore, according to this expert, real learning is the foundation for success.
"This is what we have learned from our own experience. Especially in today's education system, this is very important," said Mr. Hoang Nam Tien.
Criteria to become a worker in the 4.0 eraIn an article shared with The World and Vietnam Newspaper about the criteria for young people to become global citizens, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien gave 4 things needed for young people to become workers in the 4.0 era, ready to become global citizens. First, you have to think critically and independently. This was a disadvantage for our generation in the past. Young people today are very different, have the conditions to seek knowledge, share more and express more opinions. Second, as always, society always needs you to be able to self-study for life, to learn continuously because technology and knowledge today are constantly changing. Therefore, self-study ability is very important, so that each person does not become… old. Third, it is having a different lifestyle. It sounds contradictory but because the market competition is getting bigger and fiercer. Difference will help young people conquer the labor market more easily. They will bring their youth, different thoughts, and freshness to businesses. Therefore, your styles will contribute to changing businesses. Fourth, you must remember that English is now a working language, a language for living, not a foreign language anymore. |
