Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang received Ms. Tredene Dobson, Senior Advisor of the Multilateral and Legal Affairs Group, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, during her working visit to Vietnam. |
Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang welcomed Ms. Dobson's return to Vietnam on this occasion, highly appreciating her contributions as New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam for the 2021-2024 period and in her current position to promoting and elevating the Vietnam - New Zealand and ASEAN - New Zealand relations.
During the discussion, the Deputy Minister shared about Vietnam's policies, especially the realization of the 100-year strategic goal and the determination to achieve double-digit growth, starting from 2026. Accordingly, Vietnam needs to innovate its growth model, taking science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the driving force for breakthrough development, in parallel with renewing traditional growth drivers. To achieve this, foreign affairs, including multilateral foreign affairs, is one of the important pillars, contributing to strengthening a peaceful and stable environment, mobilizing support resources, sharing experiences, connecting initiatives... to serve the country's development.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to cooperation with New Zealand on both bilateral and multilateral levels through mechanisms such as ASEAN, the United Nations, etc. The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the "ASEAN first" approach and New Zealand's strong support for ASEAN's central role; affirmed that Vietnam, as the coordinator of ASEAN-New Zealand relations for the 2024-2027 period, will continue to closely coordinate with New Zealand to effectively implement the Joint Vision Statement and the Action Plan 2026-2030 to concretize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two sides.

Discussing the international and regional situation, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang shared Ms. Dobson's assessment of the new difficulties and challenges facing the multilateral system and global institutions. In that context, Vietnam and New Zealand reaffirmed the values of multilateralism and international law; supported the improvement and enhancement of the operational efficiency of multilateral institutions, as well as strengthened linkages and expanded cooperation, especially on global issues such as climate change, environment, rising sea levels, etc.
Expressing her pleasure in returning to Vietnam on this occasion, Ms. Dobson highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in socio -economic development and foreign affairs in recent times; affirmed that New Zealand considers Vietnam an important partner, with many similarities in interests and views in promoting multilateralism and a rules-based international order. She said that New Zealand attaches great importance to strengthening coordination with Vietnam in promoting and improving the effectiveness of multilateral institutions; suggested that the two countries' Foreign Ministries maintain regular exchanges and consultations, promote the effective implementation of the Vietnam - New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and the ASEAN - New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, actively contributing to the common efforts to build a region of peace, stability, cooperation and prosperous development.
