US President-elect Donald Trump said his administration will declare a national emergency and use the US military to carry out mass deportations of illegal immigrants.

"This is true," President-elect Trump responded to Mr. Fitton's post.

US President-elect Donald Trump

Mr. Trump has vowed to carry out the largest deportation campaign in history after being sworn in on January 20, 2025, according to The Guardian . However, any effort by Mr. Trump to mobilize the military would face legal barriers and opposition from Democratic leaders.

After winning the race to the White House, President-elect Trump quickly proposed appointing a series of hard-line figures, creating the premise to carry out the campaign to suppress immigration in his second term. Accordingly, Mr. Trump appointed Thomas D. Homan to the position of "border czar" to suppress the problem of illegal immigration.

In a brief social media post announcing the position, Mr Trump said Mr Homan would be "responsible for all deportations of illegal immigrants back to their countries of origin".

In addition, Mr. Trump also appointed Mr. Stephen Miller - an anti-immigration, to take the position of Deputy Chief of Staff of the White House in charge of policy. In this role, Miller will participate in building plans to deport large-scale illegal border crossers, cut the number of legal immigrants to the US as well as give him profound influence on immigration policy for Mr. Trump.

"President Trump will mobilize all federal and state powers necessary to conduct the largest deportation operation against illegal criminals, drug dealers, and human traffickers in American history, while reducing costs for families," said Karoline Leavitt, who was appointed by Trump as White House press secretary for the incoming administration.

According to analysis by Pew Research (USA), an estimated 11 million people are living illegally in the US as of 2022. Migration to the US border reached a record high in 2022 - 2023 before declining sharply in 2024.
