Promoting cooperation in the development of flexible power plants.
During his business trip to Finland, Petrovietnam Chairman Le Manh Hung and the Group's delegation held a working meeting with Wartsila Group.
Wartsila, a leading technology group in the marine and energy sectors, representing Finland, presented an overview of the Group, which boasts over 191 years of history and development, achieving €8 billion in revenue in 2024 and a presence in over 180 countries. Wartsila is currently a world leader in internal combustion piston engine (RICE) technology – the foundation of flexible and responsive power plants – with over 5,000 power plants built, totaling over 79,000 MW of capacity.

Petrovietnam Chairman of the Board of Directors Le Manh Hung held discussions with Wartsila leaders.
Wartsila representatives emphasized the role of flexible power plants in ensuring the stability of the power system as the proportion of renewable energy increases. RICE technology offers rapid start-up (reaching 100% capacity in just 2 minutes), flexible load adjustment, high efficiency (up to 50%), and fuel savings at low loads. Currently, RICE engines can operate on natural gas/LNG, blended LNG with hydrogen (25%), and will soon operate on 100% hydrogen, contributing to Vietnam's goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050.
A representative from Wartsila stated that they are collaborating with Vietnam Petroleum Power Corporation - JSC (PV Power) on the 600 MW Flexible Power Plant Project in Nhon Trach ( Dong Nai ), and expressed their desire to expand cooperation with Petrovietnam in the fields of clean energy, fuel conversion, and engine technology.

The Petrovietnam delegation, along with representatives from Wartsila's leadership,
Petrovietnam's Chairman of the Board of Directors, Le Manh Hung, highly appreciated the potential for cooperation between the two sides and proposed several specific directions such as: Researching solutions for cooperation in power plants and projects of Petrovietnam and PV Power; Cooperating to replace diesel generators at Petrovietnam's refineries and petrochemical plants with gas-fueled equipment to reduce emissions; Developing LNG-powered engines for Petrovietnam's large fleet; Researching electricity supply for Petrovietnam's energy centers in the North, Central, and South regions; Applying Wartsila engine technology in Petrovietnam's shipbuilding and maritime sectors.
Expanding cooperation in digital transformation, automation, and sustainable energy development.
Also on October 21st, Petrovietnam Deputy General Director Phan Tu Giang led a delegation to work with Valmet Group - one of Finland's leading industrial technology companies, specializing in providing advanced solutions in the fields of automation, energy, environment, and digital transformation.

Petrovietnam delegation works with Valmet.
During the meeting, both sides aimed to establish a cooperation channel between Petrovietnam and Valmet in the following areas: Process technology and automation (Valmet DNA); Energy solutions, waste-to-energy (WtE), biomass energy; and Flow control technology.
Accordingly, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on Valmet's capabilities, scope of operations, and reference projects in Vietnam, while also identifying opportunities for cooperation in upgrading, digital transformation, and optimizing the environment for Petrovietnam's member units. The discussions covered potential cooperation models such as: technology and equipment provision; collaboration as an integrator and service provider; implementation of Performance Agreement packages; knowledge transfer; and human resource training.
In addition, the two sides also shared information related to the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Project, advanced and environmentally friendly digitalization and automation technologies, and cooperation directions in energy transition and the development of renewable and sustainable energy projects in Vietnam.
The meeting with two leading Finnish technology corporations opened up many opportunities for cooperation for Petrovietnam in the fields of clean energy, digital transformation, automation, and sustainable development, contributing to promoting the energy transition roadmap and achieving Vietnam's Net Zero goal by 2050.
