Laser self-propelled gun can "shoot down" 30 mosquitoes per second

As if out of a sci-fi movie, the world's first "autonomous mosquito defense system" is a combination of laser technology and Lidar scanner.

A laser mosquito killer project called Photonmatrix is making waves on crowdfunding site IndieGogo, promising a high-tech solution to one of summer's most annoying problems.

With the ability to kill dozens of mosquitoes per second, the device is attracting a lot of attention, although there are still many questions about its practicality and safety.

This device looks like it was taken from a science fiction movie, using LIDAR technology combined with lasers to detect and kill mosquitoes while they are still flying.

The device can kill up to 30 mosquitoes per second, even in complete darkness, and can be yours for $498.

The product was developed by inventor Jim Wong, combining a highly accurate LIDAR system with a laser controlled by a rotating mirror (galvanometer). This system is capable of accurately distinguishing mosquitoes from larger objects such as humans, pets or birds to avoid mistaken shooting.

In particular, the device operates completely without chemicals, without making noise, relying only on infrared rays and lasers to kill insects in an instant.

The standard version of the Photonmatrix has a range of 3 meters, and the Pro version extends that to 6 meters. Both are IP68 dust and water resistant, and can operate continuously for up to 16 hours when connected to a 24V power bank. The company also offers optional accessories such as a rotating base or adapter for use with compatible phone chargers.

As of now, the campaign has surpassed its initial goal of $20,000 by 1,300% - an impressive figure. However, the Photonmatrix is still in the prototype stage and has not yet entered mass production.

Still, if the product is completed as expected, this could be a unique and extremely accurate mosquito killing solution for the garden, for picnics or fishing.
