On the afternoon of September 20th, the Da Nang City People's Court concluded the first-instance trial of a defendant accused of drug trafficking, who also exhibited reckless behavior and repeatedly challenged law enforcement.
The court sentenced defendant Cao Minh Thuc (34 years old, residing in Group 19, Hoa Hiep Bac Ward) to 17 years in prison and Ho Phuoc Nhan (29 years old, residing on Pham Dinh Ho Street, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City) to 3 years in prison, both for the crime of illegally trading narcotics.
According to the indictment, Thuc and Nhan both have bad criminal records, numerous prior offenses, and have both been sent to compulsory drug rehabilitation for one year. They have also been repeatedly punished for hooliganism and insulting law enforcement officers.

In this drug trafficking ring, Thuc played the role of mastermind, a reckless individual who frequently challenged the investigating authorities.
For example, even during the social distancing period due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Thuc still illegally used drugs and drove his motorbike without a helmet.
When confronted by anti-epidemic forces, Thuc cursed and insulted the police. In November 2022, Thuc contacted and purchased nearly 55 grams of methamphetamine from Tien (whose identity is unknown) for 32 million VND. The transaction took place at Tu Cau Bridge, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province. Thuc hired a car to transport the drugs to the meeting point, then took the drugs home and hid them.
On the morning of March 20th, Nhân called Thức, asking to buy a packet of methamphetamine for 300,000 VND. Nhân rode his motorbike to Thức's house to pick up the methamphetamine, brought it home, but was caught red-handed before he could use it.
On the same day, based on Nhân's testimony, the police arrested Thức urgently, searched his house, and seized the remaining drugs, which amounted to nearly 53 grams of methamphetamine.
