Ms. Maria Jose Pinto Gonzalez Artigas, Vice President of Ecuador, highly appreciated Vietnam's role in global efforts to combat cybercrime, especially as the host country of the signing ceremony and the High-level Meeting of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime ( Hanoi Convention).
“Vietnam has demonstrated its role and strong commitment to the international community in sharing and strengthening global cooperation to fight cybercrime,” Vice President Artigas said in an interview with a Vietnam News Agency reporter on October 26, on the sidelines of the Signing Ceremony and High-Level Meeting of the Convention.
Ms. Artigas expressed her impression that Vietnam was chosen as the host country for the Convention Signing Ceremony, which demonstrates Vietnam's leadership role and active contribution in the fight against cybercrime on a global scale.
According to the Vice President of Ecuador, the Convention is a historic step in protecting women and children.
In the context of the booming digital world , women and children are the most vulnerable groups to various forms of cybercrime.
One of the biggest challenges today in protecting these groups in cyberspace is that technology is evolving faster than cybersecurity systems.
“That is the biggest challenge, so we need to share between countries what we are doing to protect women and children. When we share experiences and act together, that is how we can truly protect women and children around the world,” Ms. Artigas stressed.
“The Convention is a historic step, not only for Ecuador but for the whole world; it reinforces our commitment, especially to children in the digital world. For children today, the digital space is where they learn, share and experience so much in life,” Vice President Artigas stressed.
Vice President Artigas said that to date, Ecuador is one of nearly 70 countries and organizations that have signed the Hanoi Convention, but responding to the challenges of cybercrime requires global efforts.
According to Ms. Artigas, after the signing of this Convention, the most important thing is for member states to demonstrate a strong commitment to its implementation. She called on countries to accelerate the process of harmonizing their laws to comply with the Convention and strengthen technical capacity, while promoting solidarity and cooperation not only among governments but also with the entire society and civil society.
Expressing his belief in the potential for cooperation between Ecuador and Vietnam in the field of cyber security, Vice President Artigas emphasized that the two countries have many common points to discuss and Ecuador is always ready to cooperate with Vietnam in this field.
At the same time, the two countries will share a commitment to efforts to prevent and combat cybercrime, such as sharing experience and technical capacity as well as implementation methods to increase cooperation effectiveness./.
