Phu Quoc is expected to welcome a record number of Russian visitors at the end of this year.

Later this year, a series of direct and charter flights from major cities in Russia and CIS countries will take off to Phu Quoc, expected to help boost tourism.

From mid-October 2025 to April 2026, Phu Quoc will welcome a series of flights from Russia and CIS countries, in the context of a sharp increase in demand for Phu Quoc tourism in the above markets. Charter flights will depart from 14 cities in Russia and the CIS, operated by Anex Tour Vietnam with two airlines Azur Air and Vietjet Air, with a frequency of 75-80 flights per month. Notably, the resumption of flights from Moscow to Phu Quoc.

In terms of charter flights from the Russian and CIS markets operated by Anex Vietnam, from October 2025 to April 2026, it is expected to bring 60,000 Russian and CIS tourists to Phu Quoc, using 1,200 to 1,500 rooms per day. On average, each tourist from these countries will stay more than 10 nights in Phu Quoc.

Thanks to these positive signals, it is forecasted that the number of visitors from Russia and the CIS bloc could increase by 30-35% compared to last year. Data from Phu Quoc International Airport also shows that air traffic from Russia to Phu Quoc has increased significantly, with the number of visitors increasing by more than 300% compared to the same period last year.

The reason for this growth is that Russian tourists are tending to travel for long periods to “escape the cold” to the warm climate islands of Southeast Asia. If in the past, Russian tourists often chose Bali or Phuket, then Phu Quoc – with its international brand recognition growing strongly in the past 2 years – is a new and interesting choice.

International recognition has added to Phu Quoc’s growing reputation. Recently, the prestigious American magazine CN Traveler ranked Phu Quoc as the most beautiful island in Asia and in the top 3 in the world . Forbes Italia praised the island as “Asia’s new luxury destination” while Singapore’s Straits Times called it “Vietnam’s paradise island”.

“The praise for Phu Quoc has brought a strong number of visitors to the island, when Phu Quoc welcomed nearly 980,000 international tourists from January to July 2025, an increase of 74% compared to 2024,” commented the news site Travel and Tour World.

The expansion of the winter charter flight route 2025 - 2026 not only helps increase the number of international visitors to Phu Quoc but also contributes to promoting the image of Vietnam as a destination, creating leverage for trade and tourism promotion activities, while affirming the role of Phu Quoc as a high-end resort tourism center of the region.

The economic benefits from Russian and CIS tourists to Phu Quoc are expected to increase further in the long term. The increase in visitors will help boost economic activity in the accommodation, transportation and related businesses, helping hotels, resorts and entertainment facilities to be ready to meet the growing demand. At the same time, Phu Quoc is actively working to upgrade its infrastructure and maintain high standards of tourism management and services, allowing the island to sustainably improve its capacity to welcome visitors.

Not only are there new routes from Russia and the CIS, according to information from Khmer Times, AirAsia Cambodia will operate direct flights from Siem Reap (Cambodia) to Phu Quoc from December 17, 2025 with a frequency of 3 flights/week.

“This new direct flight will not only boost tourism but also open up opportunities for cultural exchange and further boost the economies of both countries. In just one hour, passengers can experience the charming beaches of Phu Quoc Island and the famous Angkor Wat temple, making travel in the region easier and faster,” Mr. Nam Vissoth, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia, shared with Khmer Times.
