Hammock cafe in Ho Chi Minh City caught fire in the middle of the night

In the early morning of December 9, a large fire broke out at a thatched-roof cafe in Thu Duc city (HCMC).


According to initial information, at around 0:50 a.m. on December 9, people smelled a burning smell coming from Le Huu Kieu Street, Binh Trung Tay Ward, Thu Duc City.

Running out to check, everyone saw flames rising high at a hammock cafe at 16/1 Le Huu Kieu street.

Some witnesses said the fire was red hot, and the black smoke column was dozens of meters high. At that time, there was a man in the restaurant who had not escaped.

Immediately, people around broke the door, continuously used water and mini fire extinguishers to put out the fire, helping the man inside escape safely.

Because the cafe used a roof made of dry coconut leaves and had many flammable objects, the initial fire fighting efforts were unsuccessful. The fire continued to rage fiercely.

Upon receiving the news, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Thu Duc City Police dispatched many specialized fire fighting vehicles and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire. The soldiers made plans to fight the fire from many directions, and at the same time pulled water pipes to put out the fire.

At about 1:30 a.m., the fire was controlled and did not spread to neighboring houses.

At the scene, many items were burned, officers and soldiers cleaned up the scene, checking the specific damage. The fire caused damage to many properties. Fortunately, there were no human casualties.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by authorities.
