According to the Russian Military Review website, citing sources from the "Arkhangel Spetsnaz" channel, the village of Yunakivka, in the north of Sumy province, which was a fierce battlefield for a long time, has finally come under the control of the Russian army (RFAF). According to the Arkhangel Spetsnaz channel, a few days ago, the shock troops of the RFAF Northern Group of Forces, took control of most of the village of Yunakivka. And today, the Russian troops completed the clearing of the last remnants of Ukrainian troops from the village, marking an important victory of the RFAF on the Sumy front.
Remnants of the Ukrainian Army (AFU) units such as the 95th Air Assault Brigade and the 47th Motorized Infantry Brigade of the AFU, were partially destroyed in the village of Yunakivka during the defense of the village; some of them retreated from the village. After driving the AFU out of Russia's Kursk province, the RFAF advanced into the adjacent Sumy province to establish a “security buffer zone”; and the village of Yunakivka became an AFU stronghold, in order to prevent the RFAF from establishing a buffer zone, despite heavy losses. The 47th Motorized Infantry Brigade AFU, was also sent to reinforce the village of Yunakivka from the direction of Tetkinsky, with the task of preventing the Russians from capturing the settlement, a task of utmost importance for Kiev; otherwise, the RFAF would advance straight to the city of Sumy. Currently, the Ukrainian army has withdrawn from the Yunakovka-Sadki line to the area of the village of Mogritsy, where a new line of defense is being established. It is also possible that the Ukrainian army will try to counterattack and regain positions in Yunakivka. According to preliminary estimates, the AFU has lost about 2-3 thousand troops in Yunakivka this summer; including foreign mercenaries. Meanwhile, some Russian TV channels reported that the RFAF had not completely taken control of the village of Yunakivka. About 5% of the village was still under AFU control, but Russian paratroopers were actively conducting raids.
The AFU General Staff is trying to save the situation in the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region by sending in reserve troops, not from the rear, but from other directions, the RVvoenkory channel reported. According to Ukrainian sources, a decision has been made to send some of their units from the Sumy region to the Kharkiv region, in order to prevent a breakthrough by the Russian troops. Meanwhile, some Ukrainian sources say it is too late to save the situation in Kupyansk. The tactic of shifting reserves from one direction to another is no longer effective, although for a while it helped to stop Russian breakthroughs. However, over time, the AFU reserves began to dry up, and the number of RFAF breakthroughs increased. And now Russia's "thousand cuts" tactic has left Ukraine's defense front "full of holes" and they no longer have reserves to fill the gaps, but have to withdraw here and fill there. Rybar channel reported that AFU continues to try to improve the situation in Kupyansk, but is no longer able to stop the Russian advance. According to Rybar, the Russian offensive inside the city continues, the main logistical route for the Ukrainian garrison has been cut off.
According to the latest information, half of Kupyansk is under Russian control, the offensive is moving from north to south, gradually expanding to the east. The city center is under Russian control. The Military Summary channel said that Russian assault units have now reached Dzerzhinsky Street (called Svatovskaya in Russia), the main supply route for the Ukrainian garrison in Kupyansk. This is also considered the main supply route in the city. Russian military expert Andrey Marochko said that after breaking through south of the city, the RFAF took up new lines and positions, which gave them control of fire on a one and a half kilometer stretch of highway, along Svatovskaya Street, where until recently, supplies for the Ukrainian army were being supplied. The Kupyansk area is now under RFAF control and they are continuing to advance; the Ukrainians continue to resist, but not as fiercely as before. In addition, the Russians have captured the main AFU defense lines in the city center.
The Telegram channel "Legitimny" reported that the situation in Kupyansk has become so dire that even if the AFU brings new units into the fight, it will no longer be able to save the situation. Currently, the AFU General Staff is withdrawing reserve troops from the Sumy region to reinforce Kupyansk, but the Sumy front is heating up again, so where will they withdraw troops?
