Military Region 5: Establishing a forward command committee to respond to floods and landslides in mountainous areas

(Chinhphu.vn) - Faced with the complicated developments of heavy rain and landslides in the mountainous areas of Da Nang, Military Region 5 has established a Forward Command Committee in the Tra My area (Tra My commune) to direct and mobilize forces to support mountainous localities to overcome the consequences and ensure people's safety.

Military Region 5 established the Military Region's PCTT-TKCN Forward Command Board in Tra My to direct and coordinate response to heavy rain and landslides in mountainous communes.

On the afternoon of October 27, Military Region 5 announced that the unit had established a forward command board for natural disaster prevention, control, and search and rescue in the Tra My area to proactively direct and coordinate response to heavy rain and landslides in mountainous communes.

The Forward Command Committee consists of 29 comrades, headed by Colonel Nguyen Van Hoa, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 5. The Committee is responsible for commanding and directing the armed forces of the Military Region in coordination with contract units of the Ministry of National Defense and local authorities to deploy forces and means to support flood response, landslide recovery, and ensure people's safety.

Currently, the Command has mobilized 19 vehicles of various types, including command vehicles, Kamaz vehicles, information vehicles, tractors, excavators, bulldozers, vans and kitchen vehicles, along with 2,453 people participating in support, including 142 soldiers, 742 militia, 315 commune police and 1,254 shock troops for natural disaster prevention and control in localities.

From the night of October 25 to October 27, the mountainous area south of Da Nang had heavy to very heavy rain, with an average rainfall of 300mm, and in some places 500mm, causing 30 landslides, 13 flooding points and isolating 665 households (2,727 people) in villages 3, 4, 5 of Tra Leng commune. Local authorities proactively evacuated 377 households with 1,559 people to safety.

By 11:00 a.m. on October 27, 12 flooded areas had receded, only DH-4 road (Hiep Duc commune) was still flooded; 13 landslides had been repaired, and 17 were still being handled.

In the morning of the same day, the Forward Command Committee met to assess the situation, conduct a field survey of vulnerable areas, develop a plan to support the locality and direct forces to open roads to isolated residential areas in Tra Leng commune. The units deployed a communication system to ensure smooth communication, effectively serving the command and control work of flood response and helping the people.
