Quang Hai practices with the Vietnamese national team before the engagement day

Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai had a training session with the Vietnamese national team before being granted leave to hold his engagement ceremony with Chu Thanh Huyen.

On December 31st, the Vietnamese national team assembled in Hanoi to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup campaign. That morning, midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai joined the team and immediately began training with his teammates.

The player from Dong Anh (Hanoi) expressed great enthusiasm for this training camp. Before joining the Vietnamese national team, he scored 3 goals for Hanoi Police FC in the V-League 2023-24.

Specifically, tomorrow (January 1st), Quang Hai and Chu Thanh Huyen will hold their engagement ceremony. The number 19 player asked coach Philippe Troussier for a day off to attend to personal matters and was granted permission.

Coach Troussier instructed his players to return to the national team the following day to continue training in preparation for the 2023 Asian Cup.

Responding to Dan Tri newspaper when asked about the happy news of his upcoming marriage, Quang Hai said that this is the right time for him to turn a new page in his life, as well as to gain new sources of motivation.

"After spending so much time together, I felt I could take things a step further with that person," said the striker born in 1997.

Before Quang Hai, several other players had also joined the Vietnam U23 team for training since December 28th. Currently, the squad list includes 35 players.

Coach Philippe Troussier has just added Bui Tien Dung and Ho Tan Tai to the squad. The French strategist's decision comes amidst a wave of injuries affecting the Vietnamese national team.

Previously, Thanh Chung and Van Toan had to say goodbye to the national team, forcing coach Troussier to call up Pham Van Luan from Hanoi Police.

Before this morning's training session, rookie Hai Long shared: "It's been a long time since I've had the chance to wear the red flag with a yellow star jersey again. I feel very honored and proud, so I will try my best to show my abilities and impress the coaching staff."

The coaching staff encouraged me and the other players to try our best. The opportunity is open to all players. Everyone is trying their best and performing well."

Unless something changes, coach Philippe Troussier will also select some outstanding players from the Vietnam U23 team (who have been training since December 28th) to bring the total number of players in the Vietnamese national team to around 40.

With this experienced squad, the Vietnamese team has ensured a sufficient number of players for internal matches, while also creating competition before narrowing down the list to 30 players for the training camp in Qatar starting on January 5th.

According to the plan, before their opening match against Japan at the 2023 Asian Cup, Quang Hai and his teammates will have a friendly match as a "dress rehearsal" against the Kyrgyzstan national team on January 9th.
