
Border guards help fishermen reinforce their vehicles to avoid storms.
In Sa Huynh ward, Quang Ngai province, from the afternoon of November 4 to the morning of November 5, 160 fishing boats were safely anchored. Sa Huynh Border Guard sent officers to stand guard at the port, propagandize and instruct fishermen to reinforce their boats, and absolutely not go to sea at this time.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Dong, Chief of Sa Huynh Border Guard Station, said that the unit regularly updates the direction of the storm, promptly notifies fishermen and coordinates with local authorities to call on fishing boats in the North Central Coast, Hoang Sa and Truong Sa waters of Vietnam to quickly come ashore for shelter. At the same time, the border guards conduct counting and guide anchoring according to regulations to ensure absolute safety.
In Van Tuong commune, Quang Ngai province, officers and soldiers of Binh Hai Border Guard Station also went down to the beach to help fishermen pull baskets, collect nets, and bring fishing gear and small vehicles ashore.

Major Ta Dinh Vien, Deputy Political Commissar of Binh Hai Border Guard Station, said: "We coordinate with local authorities to develop a storm response plan to minimize damage to people. Through the community watchtower system, the unit connects with vehicles still operating at sea to guide them to safe shelters. For small boats and vessels, officers directly support bringing them ashore and inform people to reinforce their houses and be ready to respond to high tides."
According to the Irrigation Department, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ngai province, the whole province currently has 6,422 fishing boats with tens of thousands of workers. Of these, 417 boats with 4,753 workers are operating offshore; the remaining 6,005 boats have safely anchored. All vessels have received forecast information and movement direction of typhoon Kalmaegi to proactively avoid it.
To proactively respond to storm No. 13, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has issued an official dispatch to proactively respond. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requests departments, branches and commune-level People's Committees; owners of dams, irrigation and hydropower reservoirs to closely monitor warning bulletins, forecasts and developments of the storm. Urgently notify captains and owners of vehicles and vessels operating at sea to proactively prevent and have appropriate production plans, ensuring safety of people and property.
Conduct a review and be ready to deploy response plans for strong storms and floods after storms; assign members of the Civil Defense Command at their level to be in charge of the area to coordinate with units and localities to proactively direct and respond to storms and floods; prepare forces and means to deploy rescue work when situations arise.
Localities strictly implement plans to prevent and combat natural disasters according to the "4 on-site" motto. At the same time, localities are assigned to proactively decide whether to let students stay home from school depending on weather developments.
46 households urgently evacuated due to large mountainside cracks in Tay Tra Bong
On the morning of November 5, the authorities of Tay Tra Bong commune, Quang Ngai province, organized an emergency evacuation of 46 households with 188 people to a safe place, after discovering many large cracks running along the mountainside, posing a risk of landslides, threatening the residential area.
Previously, local people discovered a crack about 150m long, 15-40cm wide, with some points sinking more than 1m deep. This area is located on a mountainside 50-70m high, below which is a traffic route and dozens of households live, posing a high risk of landslides if heavy rain continues.
As soon as the information was received, the Commune People's Committee mobilized the police, militia, and youth union members to support people in evacuating to the headquarters of the Tra Tay Commune People's Committee (old) and the houses of relatives in the village; at the same time, distributing food, drinking water, and essential necessities.
The commune authorities have put up warning signs, blocked off dangerous areas and arranged for forces to be on duty 24/7 to monitor the geological situation.
Mr. Bui Thanh Dung, Chairman of Tay Tra Bong Commune People's Committee, said that the locality will continue to support people to stabilize temporarily and request the province to consider arranging long-term resettlement areas. At the same time, food, medicine, and necessities will be stockpiled in the villages to be ready to respond when storm No. 13 causes separation. Currently, the area with the crack is still blocked and strictly monitored, people are not allowed to return until absolute safety is guaranteed.
