A 28-year-old male patient residing in Mao Khe ward, Quang Ninh province, suffered from end-stage renal failure. Instead of transferring him to a higher-level hospital, his family chose the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital to perform this specialized procedure. Prior to this, the hospital had successfully performed three consecutive kidney transplants in April and May 2025.
The kidney donor was the patient's biological mother. After completing the necessary tests and legal procedures, the surgery was performed. With the experience gained from successful transplant cases, along with professional support from experts at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, the hospital's surgical team demonstrated their mastery of kidney transplantation techniques.
After three hours, the surgery was successful. Immediately after the transplant, the kidney was functioning normally, and urine was excreted as soon as the blood vessels were connected. The surgery concluded with joy for the family and the medical team. The patient continues to receive special monitoring and care in the post-transplant treatment area, ensuring the safest and most effective recovery process.

This success is particularly significant for the people of Quang Ninh province and the Northeast region. Patients with chronic kidney disease can now access kidney transplantation techniques right in their home province, without needing to be referred to other hospitals, reducing costs, time, and economic burdens, while simultaneously improving their quality of life.
Dr. Tran Anh Cuong, Director of Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, emphasized: “As a specialized general hospital of the province, we have been focusing on developing many advanced techniques in various specialties and fields such as reattachment of severed limbs, complex vascular interventions, endoscopic spinal surgery, pancreaticoduodenectomy… and especially successfully performing 4 kidney transplants. At the same time, we continue to effectively and comprehensively implement medical services and techniques right in the locality, contributing to realizing the goal of making Quang Ninh a high-tech medical service center of the whole country.”
In the first nine months of 2025, the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital successfully performed four kidney transplants, affirming the remarkable maturity of its medical team in mastering advanced and specialized techniques—techniques previously only implemented at tertiary hospitals.

This is a significant milestone in the development roadmap, gradually transforming the hospital into a top-tier hospital in the Northeast region and the final-tier hospital in Quang Ninh province.
