"The incident that occurred on the Quy Nhon pitch, besides the subjective factors of Binh Dinh Club, also involved the behavior of the players and coaching staff of Thanh Hoa Club, which was one of the main causes of the altercation on the field," Binh Dinh Sports Joint Stock Company (the company) sent a letter to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) regarding the incident that occurred in the match between Binh Dinh and Thanh Hoa teams in Round 5 of the V-League 2023-2024 on December 9th.
The official document also stated that, after the match, the company held a meeting with the Binh Dinh Club's coaching staff and made strict corrections and learned lessons from the incident with the relevant members.

The company further stated: "The referees' officiating of the match was flawed in several situations, leading to general dissatisfaction among the spectators. Therefore, the company proposes to the VFF, the VFF Disciplinary Committee, and the tournament organizers the following issues for consideration: In the 80th minute, player Rimario (number 11) of Thanh Hoa Club used his elbow to strike the chin of player Marlon (number 3) of the home team, causing Marlon to bleed from the chin and require 6 stitches (accompanied by a medical certificate from Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital)."
The Thanh Hoa Club's management and coaching staff consistently displayed disrespectful behavior, gestures, and words towards the spectators and the home team's coaching staff. For example, Thanh Hoa Club officials such as Mr. Vu Hong Quang (doctor), Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung (assistant coach), and Mr. Do Van Phuc (interpreter) received yellow cards, while Mr. Duong Tien Ky (doctor) received a red card from the referee. Particularly noteworthy was Head Coach Popov Velizar Emilov, who turned towards the home team's coaching staff and then towards Stand A, celebrating the victory in a provocative manner, further provoking outrage (images from nationwide live television broadcast).
The incident involving player Rimario, who intentionally assaulted an opponent in front of both the linesman and the main referee, was not handled appropriately by the referees. These decisions by the referees frustrated the Binh Dinh players and drew protests from the spectators. Furthermore, the officiating of the match, including the refereeing team's decision to only allocate 5 minutes of added time, also caused dissatisfaction, while the Thanh Hoa players repeatedly feigned injuries to waste time.
Coach Popov
The company stated: "We believe that serious incidents like these have negatively impacted the image of Vietnam's top football league. However, the disciplinary recommendations from the league organizers and the disciplinary actions taken by the VFF Disciplinary Committee are not satisfactory given the behavior of player Rimario, the coaching staff and head coach of Thanh Hoa Club, as well as the refereeing team."
The company requests that the tournament organizers and the VFF Disciplinary Committee consider appropriate disciplinary measures against individuals, the Thanh Hoa Club team, and the refereeing team to maintain strictness and objectivity.
Previously, on December 13th, the Disciplinary Committee issued the following decision: "For Binh Dinh team: a collective warning for the coaching staff . A fine of 30 million VND for the Binh Dinh Club match organizers. Binh Dinh team has the right to appeal to the VFF Appeals Committee in accordance with the VFF Disciplinary Regulations."
Mr. Bui Vo Viet Tuan, Deputy Head of the Binh Dinh Club delegation, has been fined 15 million VND and suspended from duty for the next 4 matches. Mr. Bui Vo Viet Tuan has the right to appeal to the VFF Appeals Committee in accordance with the VFF Disciplinary Regulations.
For Thanh Hoa team: a fine of 10 million VND and a two-match suspension for Mr. Duong Tien Ky, the club doctor.
