On the afternoon of December 5, the opening match of Group B of the women's football event of the 33rd SEA Games took place between Myanmar and the Philippines.
With a strong lineup of naturalized stars, the Philippine women's team was considered a candidate to win the tournament. However, they had an unsuccessful opening match.

Myanmar women's team unexpectedly defeated the Philippines.
On the other hand, the Myanmar women's team entered the game very confidently and made their opponents confused. In the 5th minute, San Thaw Thaw dribbled the ball down the right wing before crossing into the penalty area and letting Win Theingi Tun shoot into the Philippines' net.
Conceding an early goal, the Philippines immediately responded with consecutive shots on goal from Serrano, Defazio and Guy Jael. However, throughout the first half, they were unable to find an equalizer.
In the second half, the Philippines still controlled the game and created great pressure in front of Myanmar's goal.
In the 69th minute, from a not-too-difficult cross into the penalty area, Myanmar goalkeeper Myo Mya made a mistake in catching the ball and created an opportunity for Ramirez to finish close to the goal, bringing the match back to the starting line.
Having found the equalizer, the Filipino players seemed to regain their confidence and continuously attacked the goal. However, their lack of precision in finishing prevented them from finding another goal.
Despite attacking many times without scoring, the Philippines paid a heavy price. In the 89th minute, in a rare attack on the right wing, Myat Noe Khin crossed the ball inside for May Htet Lu to finish unmarked, sealing a 2-1 victory for Myanmar.
With this victory, Myanmar temporarily took the lead in Group B of women's football at the 33rd SEA Games with 3 points.
