Traffic accidents kill 13 people in May

Compared to April, the number of traffic accidents did not increase or decrease, but there were 5 more deaths (up 62.5%), and 6 fewer injuries (down 18.75%). Compared to the same period in 2023, traffic accidents increased by 7 cases (up 35%), 4 more deaths (up 44.44%), and 8 more injuries (up 44.44%). All incidents occurred on roads.

Thus, in the first 5 months of this year, the whole province had 178 traffic accidents, killing 70 people and injuring 163 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of accidents increased by 35 cases (up 24.48%), decreased by 20 deaths (down 22.22%), increased by 53 injuries (up 48.18%). Of which, there were 177 road accidents, killing 69 people and injuring 163 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of accidents increased by 34 cases (up 23.78%), decreased by 21 deaths (down 23.33%), increased by 53 injuries (up 48.18%). There was 1 railway accident, killing 1 person. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of accidents increased by 1, increased by 1 death.

In May, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee announced a hotline number to receive and handle complaints from residents and tourists about traffic safety and order; and disseminated traffic safety laws via SMS to more than 1,000 mobile subscribers in the province.

Carrying out patrol and control duties, the provincial traffic police force detected 3,086 cases of traffic safety violations; issued decisions to fine 2,952 cases with a total amount of over 6.5 billion VND; revoked 674 driving licenses and professional certificates; and temporarily detained 1,158 violating vehicles for handling. Of which, on the road, 795 cases of alcohol concentration violations and 3 cases of drug violations were detected and recorded, with fines totaling over 3.8 billion VND.

The Department of Transport Inspectorate coordinated with the traffic police to conduct an inter-agency vehicle weight control at km00+400, on National Highway 14D (Nam Giang). The inter-agency force stopped 26 cars, and no violations were found during the inspection.

While performing their duties, the Department of Transport Inspectorate discovered, recorded and decided to fine 10 cases with a total fine of 65.4 million VND; revoked driving licenses and suspended construction activities for a period of 2 cases.
