According to the Bangkok Post , Thailand's new Prime Minister, who is also the leader of the Pheu Thai party, the leading party in the ruling coalition, said she will discuss ministerial positions within the party's quota with core party members on August 20.
Also this week, Ms. Paetongtarn will discuss with all her partners in the ruling coalition and carefully review the qualifications of all candidates nominated for cabinet positions to ensure "no further mistakes occur."
The cabinet list must be finalized soon so that the Cabinet Secretariat and the Office of the Council of State can begin vetting the nominees before the final list is submitted to the Thai Royal Family for approval.
Thai media previously cited several sources saying that six partners in the Pheu Thai-led coalition reaffirmed their allocation of the 35-seat quota in the new cabinet.
According to coalition sources, the Pheu Thai party will hold 17 seats in the Cabinet, including the position of prime minister and eight ministerial positions, as well as deputy ministers and the minister of the Prime Minister's Office.
The Bhumjaithai Party will be allocated eight positions – including four ministerial and four deputy positions – while the United Thai National Party (UTN) will take on two ministerial and two deputy positions.
The People's Power Party (PPRP) will have two ministerial positions and two deputy positions, while the National People's Party (Prachachart) and the Thai National Development Party (Chart Thai Pattana) will each receive one ministerial position.
On August 16, the Thai House of Representatives convened and voted to elect Paetongtarn Shinawatra as the new prime minister, replacing Srettha Thavisin, who had just been removed from office by the Constitutional Court.
Ms. Paetongtarn became the 31st and youngest Prime Minister in Thailand's history. She is also the second female Prime Minister in the country's history and the third member of the Shinawatra family to hold this position, following her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, and her aunt, Yingluck Shinawatra.
