The Price Management Department ( Ministry of Finance ) announced that after the Lunar New Year and throughout 2025, it will continue to strengthen price management and control; focusing on ensuring a balance between supply and demand, and stockpiling essential consumer goods to fully meet the consumption needs of the people.
In addition, proactively monitor closely the price fluctuations of strategic commodities in the world market, developments in the global economy and geopolitical tensions, promptly warn of risks affecting domestic price levels, proactively implement within their authority or propose and advise competent authorities on appropriate, flexible, and timely response measures, solutions, and scenarios, striving to control average inflation in 2025 according to the target set by the National Assembly.
Furthermore, a review should be conducted to implement a roadmap for adjusting the prices of public services according to market principles, and for goods managed by the State according to market principles. Careful assessment and calculation of the impact should be carried out to avoid major disruptions to the price level, which could significantly affect people's lives, while ensuring the goal of controlling inflation.
The Ministry of Finance also requested relevant units to flexibly and effectively utilize price regulation tools and measures as prescribed by law to control and stabilize the market. In particular, it emphasized strengthening the effective implementation and monitoring of price declaration and listing measures; and publicly disclosing price information. Promoting production and business development creates a favorable environment for enterprises to thrive, helping to increase supply and thus reduce pressure on price increases.
Ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and provincial People's Committees shall conduct comprehensive research on the regulations in the system of legal documents on pricing in the Law on Prices and its guiding documents to organize the implementation of price management tasks as assigned within the authority and responsibility of the agency or unit as prescribed.
According to the Price Management Department, the first quarter coincides with many year-end festivals and the Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake). Following the usual pattern, the prices of some essential goods tend to increase slightly during the Tet holiday and then gradually return to normal after Tet.
As Tet approaches, demand for goods to support food production and processing for the Tet holiday, as well as for year-end restaurant services, increases, but the prices of essential goods remain relatively stable due to abundant supply.
The market is free from shortages and price spikes; people are changing their habits to shop more economically and spend wisely during Tet. A clear trend this Tet season is a strong shift from in-person shopping to online shopping.
Online marketplaces on digital platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Zalo are always bustling with year-end promotions and discounts, offering a wide variety of goods at competitive prices, making them very attractive to consumers.
Reports from several localities, along with market price information gathered by the Ministry of Finance (Price Management Department), indicate that the prices of essential consumer goods in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year) remained relatively stable and did not experience any unusual fluctuations.
Prices of some goods increased slightly, mainly in items used for worship and consumption during Tet such as fresh flowers, fruits, and some seafood, livestock, poultry, and vegetables; prices of other essential goods at supermarkets and shopping malls remained basically stable.
The supply of goods is abundant, diverse, and comes in many designs to meet people's shopping needs. Shopping activities in the days leading up to Tet mainly focus on certain items such as fruits, vegetables, fresh food, confectionery, alcoholic beverages, and soft drinks...
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, most markets, supermarkets, and shopping malls close for the holiday. However, Aeon Mall and Gigamall remain open to serve the city's residents, operating from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
On the second day of Tet (Lunar New Year), many markets, supermarkets, and shopping malls remained closed for the holiday, but some large supermarket chains such as Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, BigC, and Go! were open from 8 am to 10 pm to serve the shopping needs of the people.
Small local markets have also reopened, selling fresh flowers, vegetables, spices, and root vegetables.
In Ho Chi Minh City, convenience stores like Family Mart, GS25, and Kingfood Mart operate throughout the Tet holiday, while some supermarkets like Coop Mart and Satra have reopened with shorter opening hours.
In some major cities like Can Tho and Da Nang, some supermarkets and shops have also reopened. On the first day of the new year, people mainly go to visit relatives, go on spring outings, and visit temples, which increases the demand for parking in some areas. However, the basic price for motorbike parking remains stable.
On the third day of the Lunar New Year, many traditional markets, convenience stores, and shopping malls in cities across the country reopened for business. Trading is gradually returning to normal, with consumer demand not being high at the beginning of the year. Demand is mainly focused on essential items such as fresh seafood, fresh vegetables and fruits, food and beverage services, tourism, entertainment, parking, and passenger transportation.
The Price Management Department assessed that the supply and demand situation and market prices were basically stable and under control, especially in the context of people tending to save on consumption this year. Therefore, generally, market prices during Tet in localities fluctuated, but there was no shortage of goods or price spikes.
