Combine 3 attractive destinations

While Binh Thuan is famous for its sea tourism, Dak Nong is a combination of the wild, majestic beauty of nature with the unique cultural features of ethnic minorities... Lam Dong is the most favorite highland destination in the country with the center being Da Lat city.

Currently, Lam Dong owns 4,203 tourist accommodation establishments with a total of 66,023 rooms, including 110 3-5 star hotels with 11,266 rooms, showing that the tourism infrastructure has developed quite completely.

Binh Thuan currently has more than 600 tourist accommodation establishments with 17,658 rooms, 64 of which have been ranked as meeting standards. Famous for Mui Ne National Tourist Area, Phu Quy Island... In 2024, Binh Thuan is expected to welcome 9.65 million visitors.

Dak Nong is famous for its eco-tourism areas, majestic waterfalls and unique volcanic caves. The highlight is Ta Dung Lake with its beautiful natural landscape with large and small islands, known as "Ha Long Bay of the Central Highlands", suitable for sightseeing, boating and exploring nature.

At many seminars before merging these three localities into the new Lam Dong province, most experts, scientists, and managers said that, besides the common development in socio-economic aspects with new space and space, there is also convergence, a great opportunity for the tourism industry to develop rapidly, bringing in tens of thousands of billions of VND in revenue each year.

The special feature of the new Lam Dong province after the merger is the birth of a tourism product that perfectly combines highland tourism and sea tourism in the same province. This is a unique competitive advantage that few localities have in the Vietnamese and world tourism market. The diversity of terrain, climate and culture will allow the development of many different types of tourism from resort tourism, eco-tourism, agricultural tourism to cultural tourism and adventure sports tourism.

Looking at the overall picture, Lam Dong is one of the top tourist destinations in the country with rich and diverse tourism resources. The merger will create new opportunities for tourism development by connecting the typical tourism products of each region, creating attractive integrated tours.

Tourists will be able to experience a unique journey from the cool climate of Lam Dong plateau with pine forests, green tea hills, colorful flower gardens, eco-tourism, agricultural tourism, cultural tourism; experienced by majestic waterfalls, cuisine, typical cultural space of Dak Nong to the beautiful beaches of Phan Thiet - Mui Ne with kite surfing and swimming activities...

Experts say that as a new tourism growth pole of the South Central region, the new Lam Dong province will have a lot of room for development with rich and diverse tourism products in forests and seas and will become a dynamic economy.

With the combination of Binh Thuan’s sea tourism, Lam Dong’s highland tourism and Dak Nong’s eco-tourism, the new Lam Dong province will become a comprehensive tourism destination with strong competitiveness not only in the domestic market but also internationally. The diversity of tourism products, from beach resorts, nature exploration, cultural experiences to adventure tourism, will meet the needs of all customer segments.

Opportunity for tourism to break through

After the merger, the new Lam Dong province will have an area of 24,233km² (the largest in the country), a population of nearly 3.9 million people, and a local economic scale (GRDP) of 320,000 billion VND (ranked 8th in the country). The new Lam Dong will be a rare locality that simultaneously owns forests, seas, border gates, and seaports; and at the same time, it will be the capital of many types of industrial crops, fruit trees, and the bauxite industry.

According to Lam Dong Provincial Party Secretary Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, this is an ideal condition to build a new growth pole, with enough reach to spread and promote green and sustainable economic development for the Central Highlands - Central region and the whole country.

At the conference held in mid-June 2025, chaired by Lam Dong province before the merger, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Trung Luong - former Deputy Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research said that after the merger, the new Lam Dong will have all types of unique tourism: Resort, ecology (Lam Dong), sea and island tourism (Binh Thuan), geological tourism, community culture (Dak Nong). "The new province will be like a miniature Vietnam in terms of tourism. This is a great advantage that not every locality has" - Mr. Luong commented.

The development of marine tourism for the new Lam Dong province is not only based on the advantage of beautiful beaches but also on diverse and rich natural resources. The province owns the largest titanium reserves in the country, along with a system of beaches with fine white sand and clear blue water, creating a solid resource for sustainable tourism economic development. This helps Lam Dong have the potential to become an important marine economic center after the merger, acting as a gateway to marine tourism.

With the combination of Binh Thuan’s sea tourism, Lam Dong’s highland tourism and Dak Nong’s eco-tourism, the new province will become a comprehensive tourism destination with strong competitiveness not only in the domestic market but also internationally. The diversity of tourism products, from beach resorts, nature exploration, cultural experiences to adventure tourism, will meet the needs of all customer segments.

With the merger of the three provinces of Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, and Dak Nong into the new Lam Dong, leading economic experts believe that this combination not only creates a solid foundation for economic development but also opens up many opportunities for cooperation between the provinces, especially in the tourism industry.

Accordingly, each locality has its own characteristics in tourism: Lam Dong with resort and eco-tourism, Binh Thuan with sea and island tourism, and Dak Nong with Global Geopark and community cultural tourism. The tourism industry not only creates a significant source of income for the locality but also contributes to improving the quality of life of the people.

To maximize the potential of the new Lam Dong province, experts recommend that the province needs to establish a "New Development Vision" with the position of a new tourism growth pole of the South Central region at the national level. It is necessary to focus on developing tourism product groups that are suitable for new market trends, such as health care tourism, tourism; healing; experiential tourism and green tourism.

The development of these tourism products not only meets the increasing demands of tourists but also contributes to environmental protection and sustainable development. At the same time, it is necessary to reposition the value chain of heritage tourism, eco-tourism, rural agricultural tourism, community tourism and event tourism. In particular, promoting the development of Net Zero tourism associated with green transformation will be one of the top priorities in the socio-economic development strategy of the new Lam Dong province in the coming time.
