After a 1-1 draw against U16 Cambodia, U16 Vietnam must win against U16 Myanmar in their final match at 3 PM on June 28th to secure first place in the group. This is because in the other match, U16 Cambodia (currently tied on points with U16 Vietnam but behind due to a lower goal difference) is almost certain to win against U16 Brunei, who have conceded a staggering 18 goals in their two matches.
The pressure to win meant that although the Vietnam U16 team had slightly more possession in the early stages of the match, they rushed their chances in crucial situations. However, in their desperate need for a goal, Coach Tran Minh Chien's team unexpectedly received a "gift" from their opponents.
Vietnam U.16 controlled the match.
In the 18th minute, the Vietnam U16 team executed a well-coordinated attack, with the ball being played down the wing and then passed back. Thai Hoa received the ball and unleashed a shot; although the shot wasn't particularly dangerous, Myanmar U16 goalkeeper Htet Wai Yan mishandled it, resulting in a goal for his team. It was unfortunate for Htet Wai Yan, as the Myanmar U16 goalkeeper had been playing well in the preceding period.
After Thai Hoa's goal, the Vietnam U16 team played with increasing confidence, while the Myanmar U16 team became more anxious. In the 26th minute, Thai Hoa shone again with a beautiful long-range shot. The ball traveled with great power, giving Htet Wai Yan no chance to save it.
Although U.16 Myanmar later scored to narrow the gap before the end of the first half, stemming from a mistake by the U.16 Vietnam defense (Nyu Nyi Thant scored), Coach Tran Minh Chien's players still played very focused and confidently to control the game in the second half.
A well-deserved victory for Vietnam U.16.
Under pressure from Vietnam U16, Myanmar U16's defense completely crumbled. In the 66th, 71st, and 81st minutes, Duy Dang, Thai Hieu, and Viet Long successively scored, securing a 5-1 victory for Vietnam U16.
The young Vietnamese players deserve praise for their goals, which all came from beautiful, well-executed coordinated plays. The only difference from the previous match against U16 Cambodia was that in this game, U16 Vietnam finished more effectively and also anticipated their opponent's counter-attacking tactics better.
With a resounding victory over U.16 Myanmar, U.16 Vietnam finished Group B at the top, scoring 20 goals and conceding only 2. They had the same 7 points as U.16 Cambodia, but U.16 Vietnam ranked higher due to a better goal difference (in the other match, U.16 Cambodia beat U.16 Brunei 6-0). Coach Tran Minh Chien's team has now qualified for the semi-finals.
