The FA Cup is MU's last hope of winning a title this season. The draw has given the "Red Devils" an easy time in the semi-finals when their opponent Coventry City is playing in the English second division.
MU (red shirt) met an easy opponent but still had to struggle until the penalty shootout to win the right to enter the FA Cup final.
After almost losing hope of qualifying for the Champions League, MU is facing another problem due to internal turmoil. Before the FA Cup semi-final, young talent Alejandro Garnacho posted on social media to publicly criticize coach Erik ten Hag. However, the Dutch coach still guaranteed a place for the 19-year-old star in the match against Coventry City after receiving an apology from the player.
The "Red Devils" were clearly superior right after the opening whistle. MU made their dominance concrete with two goals in the first half thanks to Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire.
MU still controlled the game in the first half of the second half, in which Bruno Fernandes increased the gap to 3-0. However, when victory seemed to be in hand, coach Ten Hag's team almost had to pay the price for defensive errors.
Coventry City have a spectacular comeback
Despite being behind, Coventry did not give up and their efforts were rewarded with two surprise goals from Ellis Simms (minute 71) and Callum O'Hare (minute 79) to reduce the score to 2-3. Not stopping there, when the match entered the 5th minute of injury time, coach Mark Robins' team continued to punish MU when they equalized 3-3 with a successful penalty kick (due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka playing the ball with his hand in the penalty area) by Haji Wright.
The two teams had to go through extra time but there were no more goals and the match was decided by a penalty shootout. In the nerve-wracking shootout, MU was more precise and finally won 4-2.
MU had an easy start against Coventry City but almost collapsed before the opponent's spectacular comeback.
With a hard-fought victory over Coventry City, MU entered the FA Cup final against city rivals Man City (who beat Chelsea 1-0 in the semi-finals) on May 25. It was the last chance for the Old Trafford team to salvage an inconsistent season and possibly save coach Ten Hag's job.
