Colleagues were shocked to hear that poet Nguyen Van Thien passed away from a stroke.

"Nguyen Van Thien, so you will not return to the old village where we were children, right? Hearing the news of your passing this morning in Ho Chi Minh City, I am so sad, Thien," poet Nguyen Ngoc Hanh in Da Nang wrote sadly on his personal page.

The information that poet Nguyen Van Thien passed away due to a stroke this afternoon, December 3, was confirmed by poet Nguyen Huu Thuy - a close colleague of the author of Finding Yourself, Finding Me .

Poet Nguyen Van Thien lived a gentle life, with warm feelings for his friends. He was also ranked by art critic Ly Doi as one of the characters with a unique Quang personality.

"Just yesterday, when I asked him about Nguyen Thien Chuong's year of birth, he replied: "I don't know for sure, but I saw some pages saying he was born in 1957. I wonder if that's correct!? The 1940 - 1950 generation often has a difference in real age and birth date. And yet...", curator Ly Doi was moved.

Regarding the sudden passing of poet Nguyen Van Thien, poet Nguyen Huu Thuy said: "This morning at 6 o'clock he got up early to drink coffee with friends. Then he went home and told his wife that he had difficulty breathing. He complained of being tired, so his wife quickly made him a glass of milk to drink to feel better, then went to the kitchen to cook porridge. He suspected that as soon as the porridge boiled, his wife came upstairs and saw that his mouth was overflowing with newly drunk milk. The whole family rushed him to Thong Nhat Hospital, but the poet did not survive."

Writer Tran Nha Thuy said he was extremely surprised when he passed by the coffee shop this morning and saw poet Nguyen Van Thien still sitting and drinking with friends. However, that very sad thing is the truth.

Literary friends mourn the virtuous Nguyen Van Thien

Talking about his memories with poet Nguyen Van Thien, writer Tran Nha Thuy said: "I don't remember when I met Nguyen Van Thien. Probably around 1996 or later. At a representative office of a magazine in an alley on Le Van Sy Street (old District 3). There were Nguyen Lien Chau, Nguyen Dinh Bon, Nguyen Van Thien (and his wife Hong), Truong Van Tuan... Many literary friends gathered here. Almost no one was left out. I asked my girlfriend (now my child's mother) to work here, a soldier of poet Nguyen Lien Chau, so I often stopped by. It seems that Nguyen Van Thien and Hong worked for a short time and then quit to go home. They had a small house in an alley on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, near Nhieu Loc Canal".

"Nguyen Van Thien is a talented person, knows how to play and sing, is good at English and writes poetry. He has compiled hundreds of riddles in six-eight verse (signed Nguyen Thien Van). Those are literary riddles that have been reprinted countless times," writer Tran Nha Thuy continued. "At that time, a few of us brothers all made a living by writing. We worked hard day and night. For a long time, we wrote the script for The Green Fairy for a book "broker". Recently, I was surprised to know that this comic book series is still being published. Thien is gentle, quiet, and always smiles. He almost never offends anyone. He does not compete. But he is a person with a clear attitude. A kind, old, sincere type of person. People say that Quang Nam people often argue, but I have never seen them argue, or if they have, I don't know," writer Tran Nha Thuy confided.

Poet Nguyen Thai Duong wrote: "Farewell Nguyen Van Thien - a dear friend though rarely seen". Critic - curator Ly Doi added: " Good friends are both rare and far away/Tonight only the Moon is near. Rarely is there a writer from Quang who is as gentle, quiet, and knows how to keep his own opinion like him, so when he doesn't like someone, he doesn't meet them anymore, doesn't bother to give reasons or argue. For the past 5 years, he has chosen to live quietly near Pham Van Hai market, Tan Binh district (old), walking to a familiar shop a couple of times a week to have coffee with a few close friends".

The poet has been taken from Thong Nhat Hospital to Binh Hung Hoa Cremation Center and his family and relatives are urgently preparing for his funeral.

Poet Nguyen Van Thien was born in 1954, in Quang Nam. After moving to the South, he lived and wrote in Ho Chi Minh City, and had his poems published in many newspapers, magazines, and anthologies.

Some of his published works include:

- Confessions of a Teenager (Tre Publishing House)

- Quiz to learn about the Tale of Kieu ( Dong Nai Publishing House)

- Summer Street Fables (Tre Publishing House)

- Cigarette, candle and match (poetry collection, Dong Nai Publishing House)

- Nguyen (collection of poems by 4 authors, Lao Dong Publishing House).
