On the evening of September 12, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Chairman of Coc Lau Commune People's Committee (Bac Ha District, Lao Cai ) said that due to the risk of landslide, 17 households with 115 people in Kho Vang village moved to a high mountain. So far, the households are still safe.
According to Mr. Tuan, on September 9, when the risk of landslides was discovered in Kho Vang village, the village chief mobilized the 115 people mentioned above to leave the village, moving to a point about 1km away from the village to build temporary shelters.
"The head of Kho Vang village is part of the commune's flood and storm prevention team. Before the storm and flood, the local authorities sent messages to the villages. Therefore, when there was a high risk of landslides, the head of the village proactively evacuated the people," said Mr. Tuan.
Due to the impact of the flood causing landslides on many roads and loss of phone signal to contact people, by the morning of September 11, the commune police and authorities had to travel 15km through the landslide to reach the village and find the place where people took refuge.
After finding the people, the commune government sent functional forces to transport food to help people stabilize their lives and guide people on disaster prevention and control plans. Currently, people will continue to stay at the shelter.
According to the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Bac Ha district, during the recent flood, in Kho Vang village (Coc Lau commune), a landslide occurred, leaving 3 people missing, 2 injured, and 5 houses completely swept away.
