Responding to the expectations of home buyers, Hanoi has just had a second social housing project this year that is officially accepting purchase and lease-purchase applications from residents. The project is located in Dong Anh commune and has an expected price of 20.6 million VND/m2. That means an apartment will cost from more than 800 million to about 1.5 billion VND/unit. The appearance of social housing projects has brought a lot of hope to people who want to buy a house, in the context of continuously increasing housing prices.

Many people have been queuing since last night, waiting to submit their applications to buy a social housing apartment. It is expected that if the investor submits 50-70 applications per day, in about a month there will be about 2,000 applications submitted, however the number of apartments in this project is only 419 apartments. Obviously, the demand for buying a house is very large compared to the current supply of social housing.

Although tired after a long night of waiting, it seems that the desire to buy a social housing house of the people has not cooled down.

"I came here yesterday afternoon. I hope the government will build more social housing for people in situations like ours," said Ms. Bui Thi Tuoi - Hanoi.

The average price of commercial housing in Hanoi is currently around VND78 million/m2, according to data from the Vietnam Real Estate Association. Without social housing projects, people would probably have to save for 20 to 30 years to buy an apartment.

Colonel Pham Doan Tien - Director of the Investment Project Management Board, 319 Corporation of the Ministry of National Defense commented: "The number of people registering is very large. We have reorganized the work of receiving documents, increased the document reception desk, distributed more forms, and at the same time, to serve people to submit documents conveniently and safely, added more tarpaulins to help people submit documents without having to sleep in the open."

Previously, also in Hanoi, another social housing project in Bo De ward also collected applications online. In early November, another project in Dong Anh commune will also receive applications. If the number of valid applications exceeds the number of apartments for sale, the investor will have to organize a lottery. The investors all committed to organizing transparent review.

According to experts, to avoid people having to wait in long lines or waste time and effort to apply online, it is necessary to urgently increase the supply of apartments and increase the number of projects. However, to do this, businesses say they need more land from localities for social housing and more open and shortened investment procedures.
