Candidates completed the Ministry of Public Security's competency assessment test this afternoon, July 7.

At the exam site of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), a female 12th grade student in Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh) commented that in history alone, the Ministry of Public Security's competency assessment exam had many questions about lower-grade knowledge such as grades 10 and 11. "But in general, the social part is easier than the illustration, while the natural part is more difficult. Physics and chemistry have many 'strange' questions for me," the female candidate who wants to study police at the People's Police University (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) shared.

Also having difficulty with the history exam, Quoc Khang, a student at the School of Culture, Department of Training - Ministry of Public Security (Thai Nguyen), said the question asked where the capital of the Au Lac state was located. This is a lesson taught since grade 10, so the male student confessed that he was confused about whether to choose Co Loa (Hanoi) or Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh) as the answer, after eliminating two definitely wrong answers.

Candidate Dang Phan Thao Vy said that the English part was the easiest for her in the exam, followed by questions about history and geography. "Because I took the D block exam (math, literature, English), I could only do it naturally, I could do the questions that only applied simple formulas or asked about theory, but I was stumped with the rest. If I compared it to the reference exam, I found the official exam very different," the female student said.

Meanwhile, Pham Quang Vinh, a candidate from Kon Tum province, assessed that the social part of the Ministry of Public Security's competency assessment test was more focused on high-level application; the same happened with the natural part. "The multiple-choice test was too difficult, so I was a bit worried. Including the essay part, I think I did a little more than 50%," Vinh said.

The male student added that because he chose to do the CA2 exam, in addition to the multiple-choice part, he also had to complete a literature essay test including reading comprehension and literary commentary. According to Vinh, the essay part is generally easier than the multiple-choice part. "I find the reference exam and the official exam very different. In particular, the literary commentary question requires candidates to compare two works Viet Bac (To Huu) and Tay Tien (Quang Dung), not just analyze one work as illustrated," Vinh informed.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, this is the third year the competency assessment exam has been held, attracting nearly 18,000 candidates, an increase of 20% compared to 2023. The exam results will be used to consider admission to 8 police schools according to method 3, which is combined with high school graduation exam scores, in which the competency assessment exam results account for 60%. About 80% of the more than 2,100 quotas for police schools in 2024 will be considered for admission in this way.

Accounting for 60% of the official results, the Ministry of Public Security's competency assessment test is an important key to help candidates have the opportunity to become police officers.

Notably, all universities and academies this year did not meet their direct admission quotas as planned. Most of the units announced that they would transfer the remaining quotas from methods 1 and 2 to method 3. Previously, there were 11 candidates admitted under method 1 (winning national and international prizes) and 116 candidates admitted under method 2 (having foreign language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 7.5 or higher).

The structure of the Ministry of Public Security's competency assessment test consists of two parts: multiple choice and essay. The multiple choice part focuses on testing knowledge in the current high school program, including knowledge of natural sciences, social sciences, and foreign languages; in the essay part, candidates can choose one of two contents: math (code CA1) or literature (code CA2).
