Shortage of raw materials, fruit juice factories sharply reduce production

(GLO)- Due to the impact of raw material sources, fruit juice output of factories in Gia Lai province decreased by more than 1/3 compared to the same period in 2024.

In the first 6 months of 2025, the output of fruit juice products is estimated at about 6,400 tons (nearly 16% of the plan, down more than 37% over the same period). The reason is the shortage of passion fruit raw materials, making it difficult for fruit processing factories to purchase and ensure output. Currently, the price of passion fruit in buckets on the market is fluctuating between 17-20 thousand VND/kg, this is an optimistic signal for farmers to return to passion fruit trees.

With a total capacity of more than 100,000 tons of products/year, large fruit juice processing factories in the area have focused on investing in deep processing technology to create quality sources of goods, diversifying products from fruit trees to serve the domestic and export markets. In 2024, the export turnover of fruit products will reach about 150 million USD, of which fruit juice products, mainly passion fruit, account for a large proportion.

In 2025, local fruit juice factories aim to reach a total output of 40,000 tons (an increase of more than 18,000 tons compared to 2024). To ensure sufficient raw materials for operation, factories are expanding their raw material purchasing markets and linking with cooperatives and cooperative groups to restore passion fruit growing areas in the area.
