The earliest school start date for the 2023-2024 school year is 1 week before the opening day. For grade 1, the earliest school start date is 2 weeks before the opening day.

The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued a framework for the 2023-2024 school year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education. It stipulates that the earliest school start date is 1 week before the opening day. For grade 1, the earliest school start date is 2 weeks before the opening day. The opening day of the new school year is September 5.

The first semester ends before January 15, 2024; the second semester education plan is completed before May 25, 2024 and the school year ends before May 31, 2024.

Consider recognition of completion of primary school program and consider recognition of graduation from secondary school before June 30, 2024. Complete enrollment of first grade classes before July 31, 2024.

Localities proactively and flexibly develop school year schedules while ensuring the number of actual study weeks. For preschool and general education, there are 35 actual study weeks (18 weeks for semester I, 17 weeks for semester II).

For continuing education (implementing the junior high school and high school education program), there are 32 weeks of actual study for grades 9 and 12, each semester has 16 weeks; grades 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 have 35 weeks of actual study (semester I has 18 weeks, semester II has 17 weeks).

The school year schedule must be consistent with the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality. Holidays and Tet holidays are implemented according to regulations; ensuring uniformity for all levels of education in a residential area, especially in general schools with many levels of education.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training decides to let students stay home from school in case of extreme weather or natural disasters and arrange make-up classes; ensures teachers' time off during the school year.

The Ministry of Education and Training noted that the time to return to school early and the time to extend the school year must not exceed 15 days compared to the time specified in the Ministry's 2023-2024 school year schedule framework to ensure the implementation and completion of the education program in case of natural disasters, epidemics, etc.
