Ensuring safety for students and teachers during floods
On the afternoon of November 4, a working delegation from the Ministry of Education and Training led by Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong visited and encouraged teachers and students of Nguyen Ngoc Sau Primary School (Dai Loc Commune, Da Nang City).
The delegation included representatives from the Department of Quality Management, Department of Financial Planning, Department of General Education (Ministry of Education and Training), Vietnam Education Publishing House, Vietnam Education Trade Union; Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City and leaders of the People's Committee of Dai Loc commune.
Reporting at the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu - Principal of Nguyen Ngoc Sau Primary School said that the school has 1 main school and 1 satellite school, 44 teachers and staff, with a total of 648 students, 22 classrooms, 8 subject rooms, a multi-purpose hall... 100% of students study 2 sessions/day.
The school achieved level 3 quality accreditation, National Standard School after 5 years (3rd time) in 2024. The school develops the school's educational plan, teaching plan for subjects, educational activities and lesson plans according to the 2018 General Education Program, ensuring that it is suitable for the actual situation of the locality and the school.

The school has completed the 7th week program, 7 days late due to the flood. The school will arrange make-up classes on Saturdays and Sundays in the coming time to ensure the program is in accordance with regulations.
In addition, the school focuses on integrating STEM education, national defense and security, local education, digital capacity, digital citizenship, eye care and blindness prevention; education on preventing mine and explosive accidents; preserving national culture, border and island sovereignty , using energy economically, protecting the environment, biodiversity; responding to climate change, mitigating natural disasters, etc.
According to Ms. Thu, during the recent floods, the main and secondary schools were both located in low-lying areas of Dai Loc commune, so they were often deeply flooded, but the teachers, staff and students were all safe.

“During the heavy rains that caused flooding at the school, 100% of the staff and students' houses were also flooded. The floodwaters rose so high that the areas around the school yard, the multi-purpose hall, the soccer field, the toilets, etc. were flooded 1.5m deep; the classrooms were flooded 1m deep. However, the teaching equipment was not affected because the teachers and staff had moved it to a higher position. Due to the strong currents and deep flooding, the fence at the Phu My 1 village school collapsed 50m, the remaining 150m was at risk of collapsing; 130 sets of student desks and chairs were damaged. At the same time, the flood also eroded a teacher's garage. Some students had their books and notebooks wet due to the flood,” Ms. Thu informed.
The representative of the school's Board of Directors also pointed out the school's difficulties, including some degraded construction items such as: the fence at facility 2, 8 classrooms at facility 1 have collapsed floors, peeling walls, cracked ceilings, and lack of teaching equipment for grade 5 according to the 2018 General Education Program (because the old Dai Loc District People's Committee has not yet provided the equipment for 2025)...
After the flood recedes, the school will clean and disinfect the classrooms to ensure safety in preparation for welcoming students back. In addition, the school will call on benefactors to support books and learning materials for students affected by the recent floods.
Flexible, ensuring pedagogical quality in teaching and remedial learning
After listening to the report, Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong sent the regards and encouragement of Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son to the staff, teachers and students. At the same time, he hoped that teachers and students of Nguyen Ngoc Sau Primary School would continue to make efforts to overcome difficulties to quickly resume teaching and ensure the completion of the school year's tasks.

The Deputy Minister also acknowledged and appreciated the teachers' utmost efforts to overcome the consequences, ensure the safety of teaching equipment and promptly clean classrooms to welcome students back to school.
“The school must have a suitable make-up teaching plan, ensuring progress, but not putting too much pressure on students and teachers. Because teachers' houses were also heavily flooded, they also need to be cleaned. Therefore, the school must be flexible, ensuring pedagogical quality. Especially prioritize review for final year students, at the same time encourage the spirit of staff, teachers and students to try to overcome difficulties. Bring the school back to normal after the flood in the best way possible,” the Deputy Minister emphasized, at the same time requesting the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City and local leaders to continue to pay attention and direct so that the work of supporting the recovery for schools is guaranteed to be quick and most effective.

Forecasting that storm No. 13 will affect Da Nang in the coming time, Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong reminded the Da Nang Education Department and Nguyen Ngoc Sau Primary School to be proactive and ensure good storm and flood prevention work. Ensure absolute safety for students, teachers as well as teaching equipment.
