Chau Thanh district has a large Khmer ethnic minority population (accounting for nearly 50% of the district's total population). It is also the district with 7 out of 8 communes inhabited by ethnic minorities.
Over the past period, the Party and State have implemented many policies to care for ethnic minority communities. Thanks to the close attention and guidance of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee, Chau Thanh district has concretized and implemented many policies for ethnic minorities, achieving many positive results. The rural landscape of the ethnic minority areas in the district is becoming increasingly more attractive; and the material and spiritual lives of ethnic minorities have improved significantly.
Sharing his thoughts during the visit, Mr. Duong Van Tha, a respected figure in Chau Thanh district, expressed his joy and honor in representing the monks, respected figures, and Khmer people of Chau Thanh district to convey his feelings and sincere gratitude to the leaders of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities; the provincial and district leaders for visiting and extending New Year greetings for Chol Chnam Thmay 2024 to the Khmer people of Chau Thanh district.
Mr. Tha affirmed that, over the years, thanks to the attention of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the programs and projects implemented in ethnic minority areas in Chau Thanh district have created high consensus among ethnic minorities. Besides investment in essential infrastructure, the people have received support for housing, vocational training, and diversification of livelihoods, enabling them to focus on their work and economic development.
During the visit to extend New Year greetings, acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in Chau Thanh district, on behalf of the leadership of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs, Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs Nong Thi Ha respectfully conveyed her warm feelings and heartfelt greetings to the Venerable Monks, Senior Monks, and other prominent and respected figures in the district.
Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman Nong Thi Ha extended her best wishes to all monks, comrades, officials, and Khmer soldiers in the district for a healthy and peaceful Chol Chnam Thmay season.
On the morning of the same day, Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman Nong Thi Ha, along with the delegation from the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs, visited and extended New Year greetings to the monks at Buol Pres Phek Pagoda (also known as Four-Faced Pagoda) in Chau Thanh district and visited rattan and bamboo weaving facilities in the district.
During her visit to Soc Trang to celebrate the Chol Chnam Thmay New Year in 2024, Deputy Minister and Vice Chairman Nong Thi Ha, along with the delegation from the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Affairs, presented gifts to 100 influential Khmer ethnic representatives in the districts of Chau Thanh, My Tu, and Ke Sach.
