At the inauguration ceremony of Phnom Penh's third ring road, Hun Sen shared: "I want to warn you that if my son is threatened, I will return to the position of Prime Minister. Only then will I decide who can become the next Prime Minister."
According to Dap-news (Cambodia), Hun Sen hopes this will prevent the country from descending into chaos and ensure the well-being of its people.
Also on August 3rd, speaking on national television to the entire nation, the Cambodian Prime Minister announced his retirement to hand over power to his son, General Hun Manet.
The royal decree appointing the new Prime Minister is expected to be announced on August 7th, and Hun Sen will be relieved of his duties on August 22nd.
On July 26, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced his resignation after nearly 40 years in power, handing over the reins to his eldest son. This announcement came after his Cambodian People's Party (CPP) won a resounding victory in the general election on July 23.
According to him – one of the world's longest-serving leaders – this change marks the beginning of long-term stability and lays the foundation for Cambodia's development. After stepping down as Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will continue to participate in political activities.
