Promoting cultural cooperation, promoting ASEAN image in Austria

On July 8, the 63rd meeting of the ASEAN Vienna Committee (AVC) took place under the chairmanship of Lao Chargé d'Affaires in Austria, Ms. Viengxay Thammavong.

Overview of the 63rd meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Vienna.

The meeting was attended by representatives of eight ASEAN countries with representative offices in Vienna, including Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

At the meeting, the countries reviewed and evaluated the cooperation activities implemented in the first half of 2025 under Laos's Chairmanship.

Notable among these were the successful organization of ASEAN Cultural Day, ASEAN Sports Day, working sessions with the Austrian business community and international organizations and the United Nations in Vienna.

The countries appreciated Laos' efforts and new initiatives in promoting cultural cooperation, promoting the image of ASEAN in Austria as well as strengthening connections with international organizations in Vienna.

At the meeting, members agreed to continue promoting ASEAN's common voice at multilateral forums, especially in areas where countries have common interests such as sustainable development, technology, climate change response and energy security.

The countries also exchanged information on the bilateral cooperation situation with Austria and updated the candidacy of ASEAN countries to international organizations in the coming time.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, reviewed a number of important multilateral activities of Vietnam in the first half of 2025 such as the second ASEAN Future Forum held in Hanoi in late February, the fourth Summit of the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) in Hanoi in April...

At the same time, the Ambassador announced a number of outstanding activities of Vietnam in the second half of 2025, notably the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi from October 25-26 - an important milestone of Vietnam to promote global cooperation in the field of crime prevention.

The meeting was attended by representatives of eight ASEAN countries with representative offices in Vienna.

Immediately after the meeting, the Handover Ceremony of the AVC Chairmanship took place. The Lao Chargé d'Affaires, Ms. Viengxay Thammavong, transferred the AVC Chairmanship to the Myanmar Ambassador, Mr. Min Thein.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Viengxay thanked ASEAN countries for their support and active cooperation during the past term, and wished Myanmar to successfully fulfill its role as Chair of the AVC in the last six months of 2025.

Ambassador Min Thein pledged to continue to sustain existing initiatives and further promote the engagement of ASEAN diplomatic missions in Vienna.

The meeting ended in a spirit of solidarity, friendship and commitment to strengthen cooperation, aiming to further enhance the image and role of ASEAN at international organizations in Vienna as well as in the international arena.
