Given the unique characteristics of being stationed in an area with a mix of favorable and unfavorable conditions, the Party Committee and command of Regiment 762 have identified self-sufficiency production as an important aspect of their regular leadership, a practical solution to proactively secure local logistical resources, reduce the burden of costs, and make meals for officers and soldiers increasingly diverse and of higher quality.
Synchronized leadership - Unlocking inner potential
The key to the success of agricultural production at Regiment 762 lies in the close and comprehensive leadership and guidance of the Party committees and commanders at all levels. The Regiment's Party Committee issued a specialized resolution clearly defining the goals, targets, and measures for implementing agricultural production in a "focused, fundamental, effective, and sustainable" manner. Simultaneously, it thoroughly implemented the Army's QN-21 military supply project on "Improving the efficiency of agricultural production and processing in the Army to ensure suitability, safety, and sustainability in the period 2021-2025 and up to 2030".

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Chien, Political Commissar of Regiment 762, emphasized the pioneering role of the leader: “Leadership in agricultural production must go hand in hand with practical action. The Party Committee and the Regiment's command have determined that they must all participate, both directing and setting an example, rather than delegating everything to the logistics department or grassroots units. We pay special attention to education , making officers and soldiers clearly understand that agricultural production is not only the responsibility of the logistics department, but also the practical responsibility and benefit of each individual. This is how we promote the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, transforming barren land into green vegetable gardens and turning by-products into animal feed.”
In reality, thanks to close leadership, the planning of agricultural production at Regiment 762 has been implemented systematically and scientifically . The entire Regiment, especially subordinate units such as Battalion 40, has completed the planning of agricultural production models according to Project QN-21 in a rational and effective manner.
Practical effectiveness - A more fulfilling meal
From policy to action, units of Regiment 762 have begun building and consolidating a modern and sustainable agricultural production model. A prime example is the agricultural production model at Battalion 40. With a total planned area of up to 22,000 m², the Battalion has scientifically arranged functional zones: vegetable cultivation, fruit tree cultivation, livestock and poultry farming, fish ponds, processing, and salt production.
Major Nguyen Huy Hung, Deputy Battalion Commander of Battalion 40, Regiment 762, shared his secret: “We have invested in renovating and building many important facilities. To ensure year-round fresh vegetables, the Battalion has added a modern greenhouse, which helps control weather conditions and prevent pests and diseases. The livestock area has also been newly constructed with three centralized barns (pig barns, cattle barns, and poultry barns) following a closed-loop process, ensuring environmental hygiene and facilitating disease prevention and control. This helps us proactively secure a good source of breeding stock, increase livestock productivity, and ensure clean meat supply for the mess hall.”

Beyond simply ensuring quantity, Regiment 762 also focuses on applying science and technology to improve quality. Major Le Duy Ha, Head of Logistics and Engineering of Regiment 762, shared: "We have carefully studied the soil and weather to select suitable crop and livestock structures, implemented scientific crop rotation, and introduced high-yield varieties of vegetables, fruit trees, and livestock into production, ensuring that the unit regularly has harvested vegetables and fruits to serve the soldiers' meals, avoiding periods of surplus or shortage."
It is encouraging that agricultural production is always closely linked to the "Building Green, Clean, and Beautiful Units" emulation movement and the construction of "Model Agricultural Production Zones". Vegetable gardens and livestock pens not only bring economic benefits but also contribute to creating a beautiful landscape and a healthy living and working environment for officers and soldiers.
Efforts in self-sufficiency production have yielded clear and practical results, significantly improving the material and spiritual lives of the soldiers. Currently, Regiment 762 is 100% self-sufficient in green vegetables according to standards, and largely self-sufficient in poultry and fish, with prices at the kitchen always 10 to 15% lower than market prices. This allows the Regiment to consistently improve the quality of meals for the soldiers according to standards, ensuring sufficient nutrition and strengthening their health so that they can successfully complete training and combat readiness tasks. From self-sufficient production products, the Regiment's processing area also actively produces auxiliary products such as sausages, tofu, and various pickled vegetables and fruits, contributing to diversifying the menu and bringing a homey flavor to the unit's meals.

Major Nguyen Huy Hung further shared: “Thanks to the fresh, clean food sourced locally, the unit's health rate among its personnel is consistently maintained at a high level. Self-sufficiency production is also a form of training, creating a spirit of unity and camaraderie, and giving officers and soldiers more time to relax after strenuous training sessions. More importantly, the soldiers produce the food themselves, benefit from it, and thus feel even more attached to and fond of the unit.”
The self-sufficiency and self-improvement work at Regiment 762 has effectively utilized internal resources, self-reliance, and self-strength, implementing the emulation movement "The Army Logistics Sector follows the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh." The gardens, fish ponds, and livestock pens are not only places for producing food, but also places for educating and training the character and will of officers and soldiers. With steady, scientific, and effective steps, Regiment 762 is continuing to build a stronger unit, excellently fulfilling its key political tasks, and deserving to be a shining example in the logistics work of the armed forces of Thanh Hoa province.
