Venerable Thich Duc Thien received the Goodwill Ambassador Medal

On the afternoon of July 17, at Quan Su Pagoda (Hanoi), Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and General Secretary of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, was awarded the Goodwill Ambassador Medal from the Congress of Leaders of World Religions and Traditions.

This is a noble award presented by the Congress Secretariat in recognition of the Venerable's outstanding contributions to promoting inter-religious dialogue, building peace , tolerance and developing cultural and political diplomacy between nations.

According to the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Vietnam, Mr. Kanat Tumysh, who presented the Medal on behalf of Vietnam, Venerable Thich Duc Thien is the fourth person in the world to receive this prestigious title. Previously, only three global religious leaders had been honored with the Medal symbolizing international peace and goodwill.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan highly appreciated the active and effective role of Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien in multilateral forums, especially his efforts to contribute the voice of Vietnamese Buddhism to the process of building peace, sustainable development and global humanity.

The awarding of the Medal also recognizes the increasingly prominent role of Vietnamese Buddhism in international religious diplomacy , affirming the position and influence of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in activities to build the world religious community for a peaceful and prosperous future.
