Relay to School 2024: Relay station named after kindness

We're just offering support; we don't expect the scholarship to achieve anything significant, we just hope to provide the students with encouragement through acts of kindness and compassion.

This is the 20th anniversary of this club. Therefore, things seem more urgent, although, as Mr. Pham Phu Tam – the club's chairman – honestly admitted, there are many difficulties. Nevertheless, the members still brought to the editorial office a gift of 1.5 billion VND, equivalent to 100 scholarships, ready to support poor students in Quang Nam province.

Time flies, and now it's the 20th season of supporting new university students in Da Nang and Quang Nam. Over 23 billion VND has reached the right recipients at the right time. 2,194 scholarships have been awarded. This means that the same number of 18-year-olds, on the threshold of adulthood, have gained more confidence to move forward without having to abandon their studies due to poverty.

To use an analogy, Mr. Tam said the club is like a relay station on the track for poor student athletes, and "if we didn't offer them a bottle of water right then, the athlete might have collapsed." The club's vice-chairman, Le Hoang – former editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper – vividly remembers the enthusiastic atmosphere and immediate support when he proposed establishing the club during a dinner in 2005.

He said he was surprised that many of the founding members from the beginning are still enthusiastically participating and inviting others to join in.

In his heartfelt message, Mr. Le Hoang hoped that Tuoi Tre newspaper would continue to maintain and expand the "Supporting Students to School" program because, despite development, poverty still exists. Not to mention the rising cost of living, prices, and tuition fees, the desire for support among new university students is genuine, and scholarships truly alleviate some of the burden for poor students.

"Fifteen million dong isn't enough to guarantee a secure financial foundation for studying, so we have to keep contributing. Especially when we receive support from those who have gone before us, the value isn't just the money, but also the encouragement, motivation, and belief in the kindness of others," Mr. Le Hoang shared.

Thus, the 20-year journey of the Quang Nam - Da Nang School Support Club, a gathering place for successful and accomplished sons and daughters of Quang Nam, has been like a refreshing stream nourishing the souls of young people facing difficulties. Therefore, the journey is not only heading towards its 21st year but will continue for much longer, as this station of support, named after kindness, continues to be nurtured through each annual scholarship season.
