Adding more motivation for cooperatives on the new development path

Along with market promotion, support for the application of science and technology, and brand building by the city's functional departments, cooperatives in Can Tho City have continuously invested in the production of goods and agricultural products... meeting quality standards according to the needs of domestic and foreign consumer markets. Thereby, not only helping to increase the value of local agricultural products, but also contributing to adding motivation for cooperatives on the new development path.

Thoi Trinh Agricultural Cooperative, O Mon Ward introduces Ido longan product with 3-star OCOP certification.

In order for the collective economy , with the core being cooperatives, to develop stably in the new period, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City together with relevant departments of the city and localities have been implementing many programs to support cooperatives to participate in training programs, fostering managers and cooperative members to build brands, register growing area codes, apply processes and standards in production to create many items and products that meet quality standards, meeting domestic consumption and export needs; at the same time, supporting cooperatives to participate in conferences and fairs to promote the market for agricultural products, especially local specialties or products that have achieved the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) certification... Thereby, promptly supporting cooperatives to grasp market demand, focus on investing in production to increase the quality of OCOP items and products; At the same time, seek and expand cooperation opportunities with partners and businesses to develop production models associated with consumption, increase the value of OCOP products, and increase income for members and farmers in the cooperative.

With the desire to increase the value of cultivating specialty fruit orchards for local gardeners, Thoi Trinh Agricultural Cooperative, O Mon Ward has organized for members to grow Ido longan according to VietGAP, OCOP standards... to increase the value and market competitiveness of Ido longan. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Director of Thoi Trinh Agricultural Cooperative, said: Currently, the Cooperative has 60 members, specializing in growing Ido longan, longan and Ruby guava, with a total area of over 48.8 hectares, of which Ido longan is the main crop accounting for over 90% of the total area of the entire Cooperative. According to Mr. Nghi, with the support of the city's functional departments and local authorities, the Cooperative has so far built a collective brand, and been granted 4 growing area codes; maintaining Ido longan cultivation according to VietGAP standards and being granted a 3-star OCOP product certificate... With these conditions, the cooperative can easily approach many partners and purchasing enterprises such as GO supermarket system, Bach Hoa Xanh... in the city. Currently, on average, the cooperative sells 2-5 tons of Ido longan to the market every day, at a price of around 16,000 VND/kg, depending on the time.

According to Mr. Nghi, thanks to maintaining Ido longan cultivation according to VietGAP standards and guiding members to apply good cultivation techniques, processing longan trees to bear fruit all year round and especially ensuring that longan fruit is of safe quality to consumers, the Ido longan of the Cooperative always sells at high prices and is purchased by traders and partners, helping to bring a stable source of income to gardeners in the Cooperative. It is estimated that with a large area (area of 1,300m2) of Ido longan, the yield is about 2 tons/cong, gardeners have an income of about 30 million VND/cong, depending on the time. It can be affirmed that the Cooperative is the "bridge" that helps farmers to do well the safe agricultural cultivation processes, and connects with businesses to support output, helping to bring a stable source of income to gardeners in the Cooperative.

Not only focusing on investing in deep processing technology to create high-quality freeze-dried cordyceps fiber products, ODA High-Tech Cooperative, Phong Dien Commune also actively participates in the OCOP program to enhance the value of products in the market. Up to now, the cooperative's freeze-dried cordyceps fiber products have achieved 4-star OCOP product certification and have been honored as 100 typical products of cooperatives nationwide, and were awarded the "Mai An Tiem" award by the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance for the first time in 2024... According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Da, Director of ODA High-Tech Cooperative, thanks to the synthesis of many strengths, the cooperative's freeze-dried cordyceps fiber products have been present on many shelves of stores and clean food dealers in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho City and some northern provinces and cities, helping to increase the income of cooperative members and farmers cooperating with the cooperative.

To support and encourage cooperatives to improve product quality, the city's functional sectors need to promote policies to support capital investment in infrastructure for the collective economic sector, with cooperatives as the core; strengthen the training of human resources with the ability to apply new technologies, to help cooperatives catch up with the requirements of business innovation in the digital environment; at the same time, promote trade promotion programs, connecting cooperatives with each other and between cooperatives and large enterprises to develop and expand consumption markets. In addition, pay attention to building and developing models of high-tech agricultural cooperatives, applying deep processing technology, to help cooperatives improve production efficiency, create many agricultural products, OCOP products with local imprints... Thereby, adding motivation for cooperatives to develop more and more stably and sustainably on the new journey.
