Tieu Minh Phung: A miserable childhood, attracted attention when he brought reformed opera into rap

(Dan Tri) - Once a controversial contestant at "Rap Viet 2024" when he brought reformed opera into rap, Tieu Minh Phung still persists in his own path.

During the "Proud to be Vietnamese" program held at My Dinh National Stadium ( Hanoi ) recently, the performance of " North, Central, and South United" by Tieu Minh Phung and RamC attracted attention for its combination of folk songs, traditional music, and rap. The video of this performance went viral on social media, drawing the interest of viewers.

Previously, Tieu Minh Phung also gained recognition for incorporating Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) into rap in the Rap Viet 2024 program. Despite facing much controversy, the young singer has left a strong impression, persevering with his own unique path.

Speaking to reporters, Tieu Minh Phung shared that he started out as a tour guide but decided to change direction due to his passion for art. Nearly 10 years into his career, he has tried his hand at many different roles, starting with minor and supporting roles...

Having risen to prominence from artist Minh Nhi's stage, Tieu Minh Phung participated in Laughing Through Vietnam 2023. During Tet 2024, he appeared in the theatrical film *Sang Den* (directed by Hoang Tuan Cuong). With his forte in folk music and Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera), Tieu Minh Phung boldly ventured into rap, gaining attention in Rap Viet Season 4.

The singer shared: "Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) is a 'specialty' of my hometown, closely associated with my childhood. When I tried my hand at rap, I also hoped that young audiences could get to know and love this art form."

Few people know that Tieu Minh Phung has a rather special background. His parents divorced when he was young. Tieu Minh Phung lived in a thatched hut built on rented land, single-handedly taking care of his younger brother. Overcoming many difficulties, he grew up with willpower and determination, but never blamed fate.

The singer believes that: "Those difficulties only showed me how beautiful life is, and I always want to bring the most positive energy to people through my music."

Since Rap Viet 2024 , Tieu Minh Phung has become more well-known, and his life has improved somewhat thanks to more performance opportunities. However, he still lives in rented accommodation and saves money for his artistic projects.

On August 22nd, Tieu Minh Phung released the music video " Footprints on the Fire," featuring nearly 30 artists. The song praises the Vietnamese People's Police and the soldiers who have fallen for their homeland.

The male singer has hinted at an upcoming new project in collaboration with Phuong My Chi. Tieu Minh Phung revealed that he and Phuong My Chi have been close friends for many years. For this project, the singer is using all his savings, and even borrowing money, to make it happen.

Tieu Minh Phung, born in 1997 in Ca Mau, became known after participating in the Rap Viet 2024 program. Prior to that, the singer had nearly 10 years of experience in the arts as an actor and MC.
