Over the past 80 years, Vietnam's import and export activities have undergone a strong transformation, becoming an export powerhouse, in the top 20 economies with the largest trade scale in the world.

Director of the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) Nguyen Anh Son informed that in the past 5 years, import-export activities have continuously faced many challenges, with rapid, multi-faceted, unpredictable fluctuations of the world economy, low demand for imported goods, along with fierce competition and many trade protection measures, especially in large markets.

The number of items with export turnover reaching over 1 billion USD has gradually increased, from 21 items in 2011, to 25 in 2016 and 31 items in 2020, and then to 37 items in 2024.

Economist, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Phuong, said that Vietnam needs to shift from export processing to manufacturing products with high localization rates, technology content and added value.

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong said that Hanoi has proactively researched and compared with major cities in the country such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, and capitals and major cities in the region and the world such as Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok... to determine development goals and orientations.

Hanoi is determined not only to compete domestically, but also to reach regional and international levels. Therefore, the development goals for 2030 and 2045 both focus on regional and global visions.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute, said that the 2026-2030 period has a completely new development context. The challenges and opportunities are both very unusual, global, historical and epochal. In that context, Hanoi needs to carefully explain the investment structure by industry and by time, thereby determining where the breakthrough can come from.

Ensuring candidates' rights in university admissions: Need to perfect the admissions plan

Candidates exchange at the 2025 high school graduation exam.

According to the plan, August 30 is the deadline for candidates to confirm their university and college admission in 2025. However, the system still recorded many errors in the admission process, causing confusion for candidates, and some schools had to apologize.

Faced with this reality, the Ministry of Education and Training and schools have urgently handled the situation and affirmed that all qualified candidates will be recognized as successful and their rights will be guaranteed. The Ministry of Education and Training has also decided to extend the admission confirmation period by 3 days, until 5:00 p.m. on September 2.

Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh, former Director of the Department of Vocational Education (Ministry of Education and Training), proposed that in the enrollment work in the coming years, the Ministry needs to stabilize the regulations for at least 5 years to avoid continuous changes. At the same time, it is necessary to limit the admission combinations that are not linked to industry standards, standardize the exam questions and have a transparent national conversion system.

The sight of students jostling to buy snacks such as sausages, skewers, mixed rice paper, cheap milk tea, etc. right in front of the school gate is no longer strange. Unfortunately, most of these foods are of unknown origin and do not ensure hygiene and food safety.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh, former staff of the Institute of Biotechnology - Food Technology (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) said that although food sold in front of school gates is attractive in color and taste, it has many potential safety risks.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phuong Mai added that a poor quality diet not only affects physical health but also causes cognitive decline. Children who eat a lot of fried foods, fats and additives will have up to 20% less ability to solve math problems compared to children who eat healthy foods.

Dr. Truong Hong Son, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Applied Medicine, emphasized that eliminating the situation of "dirty" food around school gates, although still difficult, is not impossible.

Cars stopped right under the no parking sign on Tran Thai Tong street (Cau Giay ward).

Recently, on some streets such as Nguyen Co Thach, Tran Thai Tong... there has been a situation where people arbitrarily collect parking fees right in areas with no parking signs.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thao (in Phu Dien ward) recounted that every time she came to eat or drink coffee in this area, she was charged parking fees, some places 20,000 VND, some places 30,000 VND. The climax was when she went to a restaurant at 1 Nguyen Co Thach street, a person in a security uniform asked her to pay 50,000 VND/time.

Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Cau Giay Ward, Vu Trung Kien, affirmed that arbitrarily collecting parking fees on streets with no-stopping and parking signs is against regulations. However, the Ward People's Committee has not yet grasped information about the above issue, nor has it received specific feedback from the people.

Regarding the violations occurring on Nguyen Co Thach Street, Deputy Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Tu Liem Ward, Nguyen Thi Hien, said that the department has requested relevant units to check the reflections of Hanoi Moi Newspaper and will respond specifically to this issue later.
