Tinh Bien (An Giang): Striving to reduce the rate of poor ethnic minority households to below 4%

The 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of the Town in 2024 set a target of reducing the poverty rate among ethnic minorities to below 4%.

Attending the Congress were: Mr. Nguyen Phu - Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of An Giang province; leaders of agencies and units of the province and Tinh Bien town; and 150 delegates representing ethnic minority communities in the area.

According to the report presented at the Congress, during the period 2019-2024, the implementation of ethnic affairs and ethnic policies in Tinh Bien Town was given attention and achieved many positive results. The town has met and exceeded 7 out of 8 important targets of the past term.

Specifically, Tinh Bien now has 100% of its centers accessible by car; 100% of communes and wards use the national power grid. The poverty rate has decreased by over 2% annually, currently standing at only 2.5%. 13 out of 14 commune health stations meet national standards; the rate of people participating in health insurance is quite high, with over 98% of ethnic minority people having health insurance; the town has paid attention to preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities, notably the rotating organization of the Bay Nui bull racing festival, teaching traditional five-tone music, and preserving the intangible cultural heritage of Kinh La Buong…

From 2019 to the present, the essential infrastructure system of Tinh Bien town has been increasingly invested in and improved. In addition, policies, projects, and economic models supporting production implemented in the area have promoted the economic development of ethnic minority households, such as: restructuring crop patterns, expanding occupations, job placement, training support, access to loan capital, and housing support… As a result, the face of rural areas inhabited by ethnic minorities in Tinh Bien town has changed significantly; many households have escaped poverty and achieved stable lives. Political security, social order and safety are ensured, and border security is maintained.

Speaking at the Congress, the Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of An Giang province, Nguyen Phu, acknowledged and praised the achievements and results that the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in Tinh Bien town have achieved during the period 2019 - 2024.

Mr. Nguyen Phu expressed his confidence that, with the achievements and results obtained, the attention and focused leadership and guidance of Party committees, government agencies, mass organizations, and the entire political system, and by promoting the tradition of unity, patriotism, and self-reliance of the people, the ethnic affairs work of the town will continue to achieve many more successes and results in the coming period, making a worthy contribution to the fulfillment of the town's political tasks.

Individuals and groups were awarded Certificates of Commendation for their outstanding achievements during the period 2019-2024.

With the theme "Ethnic groups unite, innovate, and create to leverage advantages and potential for integration and sustainable development," the delegates approved the direction and tasks of ethnic affairs work for the period 2024-2029.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Tinh Bien Town will strive to reduce the number of poor households among ethnic minorities to below 4%; the rate of trained laborers will reach 50% or more; every year, all children of ethnic minorities of school age will attend school, with no ethnic minority children dropping out; maintain and improve the quality of communes and wards that meet national standards for healthcare; improve the quality of medical examination and treatment in ethnic minority areas; and ensure that 97% of ethnic minorities participate in health insurance…

In a spirit of solidarity, the delegates also voted to elect 25 official delegates to represent Tinh Bien Town at the 2024 Congress of Ethnic Minorities of An Giang Province.
