Among them, there are people who have donated blood 80 times, 90 times, 100 times and up to 124 times. Typical examples include: Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (Hanoi, donated 124 times), Mr. Vu Dinh Pham (Ho Chi Minh City, donated 103 times), Mr. Vu Duy Khanh (Hai Phong City, donated 82 times)...

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that in 1994, the first year of launching the humanitarian blood donation movement, the amount of blood received was only nearly 138,000 units of blood, the voluntary blood donation rate reached 14.5%. After 20 years, from 2014 onwards, the amount of blood received every year always reached over 1 million units.

The amount of blood received in 2023 is nearly 1.6 million units, 11 times higher than in 1994, the voluntary blood donation rate reaches 99%.

It can be affirmed that the 30-year journey of humanitarian blood donation is a journey full of love between people. Many lives have been revived and regained life when receiving the precious, warm blood of people with kind hearts.

The Minister of Health shared two recent typical emergency cases requiring blood transfusion. One was a case of a ruptured heart after a traffic accident that was miraculously saved at Bach Mai Hospital in February 2024. The total amount of blood transfused before, during and after the surgery of this patient was up to 10 liters of blood and various blood products.

Another case is a patient with complete paralysis due to polyradiculoneuropathy syndrome who regained his mobility after 2 weeks of treatment at Quang Ngai General Hospital thanks to the use of 96 units of plasma to perform 6 plasma exchanges.

"All such surgeries and treatments would not be successful without the blood donated by voluntary blood donors across the country. It is you who have contributed to making the voluntary blood donation movement in our country grow stronger and develop day by day, and accompany the health sector to gradually meet the needs of caring for and protecting the people's health" - the Minister of Health affirmed.

At the ceremony, the Minister hoped that the 100 outstanding voluntary blood donors honored this year would become core members and active propagandists spreading the spirit and noble gesture of voluntary blood donation to the community and society to light up hope, dreams and life for patients.
