After three days of exciting activities, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province held the closing ceremony of the 2024 Binh Thuan Province Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Region Culture Festival on the evening of December 13th.

The 2024 Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Region Culture Festival of Binh Thuan Province offers locals and tourists traditional costume displays and unique artistic performances.
The festival offered locals and tourists traditional costume performances, elaborate artistic performances, and precious folk songs. At the same time, visitors were able to immerse themselves in an exhibition space showcasing and promoting local traditional cultural products, featuring many artifacts and products characteristic of the culture of ethnic minorities and mountainous regions in the province; typical tourism products and destinations, traditional specialties, and OCOP products linked to the local tourism development potential.
With the theme: "Preserving, promoting and spreading the traditional cultural identity of ethnic minorities and mountainous regions associated with tourism development," the festival attracted approximately 200 artisans and performers from 7 districts: Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan Nam, Ham Tan, Tanh Linh and Duc Linh.
The festival aims to honor the fine traditional cultural values, preserve and promote the cultural identity of the ethnic groups within the unified and diverse culture of the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam in general and the 35 ethnic groups of Binh Thuan province in particular; promote socio -economic development, improve the level of enjoyment of cultural and spiritual life for the people, and at the same time link it with the development of community tourism in the locality.

Mr. Bui The Nhan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Thuan province, said: "The culture of ethnic groups is a valuable asset, and preserving the identity and cultural diversity of ethnic groups has great political and social significance. The first Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Region Culture Festival of Binh Thuan province is a large-scale cultural event of the province, aiming to implement the spirit of Resolution No. 9 of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (11th term) on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people, meeting the requirements of sustainable national development."
This occasion is to honor, preserve, and promote the national cultural identity, linked with sustainable tourism development, contributing to economic development, caring for the material and spiritual lives of the people, while simultaneously educating patriotic traditions, consolidating and strengthening national unity, and contributing to the cultural life and economic development of ethnic minority areas. It is also an opportunity to introduce and promote the traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups of Binh Thuan to people nationwide and international tourists.

Within the framework of the festival, typical cultural activities took place such as: a folk song, folk dance, folk music festival and a performance of traditional costumes of ethnic minorities and mountainous regions with the theme "Sounds of the Mountains and Forests"; an exhibition space introducing and promoting local traditional culture…
At the end of the festival, the organizing committee awarded 7 A prizes, 5 B prizes, 4 C prizes, and 20 consolation prizes to performances and individuals in various categories: folk songs, folk dances, folk music, traditional costume performances, best actors, etc. In addition, the organizing committee also awarded the overall A prize to the Bac Binh district delegation; the overall B prize to the Ham Thuan Bac district delegation; and the overall C prize to the Tuy Phong and Duc Linh district delegations. The Ham Tan, Tanh Linh, and Ham Thuan Nam delegations received the overall consolation prize.

In particular, within the framework of the Festival, a scientific seminar was held on "The current situation and solutions for preserving and promoting the traditional costumes of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in Binh Thuan province".
With the theme "Preservation - Connection - Dissemination," the seminar provided an opportunity for cultural managers and scientific researchers to review and assess the current state of traditional costumes of ethnic minorities in Binh Thuan. It also aimed to propose effective models and solutions for preserving and promoting the value of traditional ethnic minority costumes in the locality.

According to Mr. Bui The Nhan, the traditional costumes of ethnic minorities in Binh Thuan are very simple in content, deeply rooted in ethnic traditions, and connected to the natural environment; they not only reflect the culture of the community but also preserve the nuances of history and culture through the existence and development of each ethnic group.
However, with the development of market mechanisms and the multifaceted cultural exchange taking place between regions today, the traditional clothing of ethnic minorities is at risk of fading, changing, and gradually losing its distinctive cultural values. Traditional clothing is no longer commonly used in daily life but is only worn during Tet (Lunar New Year), festivals, and community religious ceremonies. The weaving and tailoring crafts of the Cham, Raglai, K'ho, and Cho Ro ethnic groups are gradually disappearing.

At the seminar, delegates argued that, in order to preserve and promote the traditional costumes of ethnic minorities, more policies, programs, projects, and initiatives are needed to support activities aimed at preserving and safeguarding traditional cultural values. Local authorities, the Fatherland Front, and mass organizations at the commune level need to strengthen propaganda and education to raise awareness among ethnic minority communities, especially village elders, community leaders, respected individuals, dignitaries, artisans, intellectuals, and the younger generation, regarding the preservation and promotion of the value of their traditional costumes.
