From December 13th to 16th, the 2024 Vietnamese Ethnic Cultures Festival took place in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, with the theme "Preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Vietnamese ethnic groups for equality, solidarity, respect, integration, and development for a peaceful world." The festival was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province.
At this year's festival, the Lang Son delegation participated in 7 events and won 10 awards (including 3 A prizes, 3 B prizes, 3 C prizes, and 1 third prize in the overall sports competition). Specifically, the 3 A prizes included: the excerpt of Then Nung folk song "Khau tam co lum - Vao Tram Cay Da" in the folk art festival category; the performance of traditional costumes of the Nung Cum Cot and Dao Lu Gang ethnic groups in the traditional ethnic costume performance category; and the demonstration of community tourism skills.
The entries that won 3 B prizes included: the Pả Dung folk song performance of the Dao ethnic group; the excerpt from the Dao ethnic group's harvest prayer ritual in the folk arts festival; and the exhibition booth showcasing and preparing traditional cuisine. The 3 C prizes included: the Pí Lè horn performance "Excerpt celebrating a Dao ethnic wedding" in the folk arts festival; the performance and presentation of an excerpt from the coming-of-age and initiation rituals of the Dao Lù Gang people; and the exhibition space displaying the province's traditional ethnic culture.
Reportedly, the 2024 Vietnamese Ethnic Cultures Festival in Quang Tri province will bring together 16 provinces and cities: Bac Giang, Da Nang, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong, Lang Son, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Hue, Vinh Phuc, and Quang Tri.
The festival is not only a cultural event, but more importantly, it is an opportunity for cultural figures, artisans, performers, and amateur athletes from various ethnic groups to participate in exchanges, share experiences, and showcase the beauty of their own cultures. Through this, it spreads pride and a sense of responsibility among each citizen and community in preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in the era of national integration and development.
