On the morning of September 5, General Secretary To Lam and many Party and State leaders attended the opening ceremony, celebrating 80 years of tradition in the education sector.
No child left behind
Speaking here, General Secretary To Lam stated that our country is entering a new stage of development, with the goal of becoming a modern industrial country by 2030, and a developed, high-income country by 2045.
In the context of globalization, knowledge economy, science and technology and digital transformation developing strongly, education and training must maintain its position as a top national policy, becoming a key driving force for national development.
Recently, the Politburo issued Resolution 71 on breakthroughs in education and training development. This month, the Secretariat will hold a National Conference to disseminate and implement this resolution.
This is a resolution of utmost importance, with strategic vision, large and specific goals, tasks and strong breakthrough solutions, bringing Vietnamese education and training into the flow of world education.
To successfully carry out the cause of education and training innovation in the new period, General Secretary To Lam emphasized a number of major orientations.
Including strong innovation in thinking and action. Shifting from "corrective" reform to creative thinking - leading national development through education; taking quality - equity - integration - efficiency as measures; tightening enforcement discipline.
Ensure equal access to education and raise the level of education. No child will be left behind; prioritize remote, border, island and disadvantaged areas; increase investment in schools - school nutrition - teachers - digital infrastructure.
Recently, we have exempted tuition fees for all students from kindergarten to high school; some localities have provided free lunch for children studying 2 sessions.
The Politburo has concluded on the investment policy to build inter-level boarding schools in 248 land border communes.
In the immediate future, the pilot investment will complete the construction or renovation of 100 schools in 2025, to be completed no later than the start of the next school year, that is, before September 2026.
Along with that, general education is innovated in a comprehensive direction. Not only imparting knowledge, but also nurturing personality - training the body - nurturing the soul, arousing civic spirit, sense of discipline and social responsibility; forming a generation of people who are "both talented, kind and resilient".
With this goal in mind, the General Secretary proposed striving to universalize general education as soon as possible, as this requirement is very urgent.
He said we have the conditions to universalize primary education. The government has taken care of tuition fees and we have many favorable conditions.
"How can students and teachers reduce the pressure of having to take the high school transfer exam now? If we universalize it, this problem will be solved. The Ministry of Education and Training reported to me that now there are only difficulties with schools and teachers.
We can absolutely do that. Students really want to continue going to school. If they are not educated, it will be very difficult for them to enter life at the age of 13-14. This is the goal we must strive for," he stated.

Must create new victories with knowledge - courage - creativity
Another major orientation, the General Secretary emphasized, must create breakthroughs in higher education and vocational education.
Universities must become centers for knowledge and technology production, and the core of innovation and entrepreneurship; closely linking training, research and transfer with the country's development needs.
It is necessary to establish large universities of regional and international stature, and modern vocational training institutions, to train a high-quality workforce that will contribute to the country's breakthroughs in science and technology, industrialization, and digital transformation.
He also requested to take care of building a team of teachers and educational administrators.
Teachers are the soul of education, the decisive factor for the success or failure of innovation. Teachers not only impart knowledge, but also sow aspirations, nurture personality, and light up faith in students.
Therefore, teachers themselves must constantly study, be creative, and set exemplary examples.
The General Secretary also emphasized many requirements on promoting international integration in education, promoting digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) in education, prioritizing investment in education, building a learning society and lifelong learning.
On the occasion of the opening of the new school year 2025-2026, the General Secretary also expressed some instructions to the children.
"The previous generation made victory with blood and bones. Today, in peace, integration and aspiration to rise up, the responsibility of the younger generation is to make new victory with knowledge - courage - creativity.
Therefore, children should set clear goals; practice self-discipline in self-study; nurture a passion for discovery. Improve capacity, master digital technology and artificial intelligence in a smart, safe and humane way.
Know how to love, share, and live responsibly for yourself, your family, and the community," the General Secretary further emphasized.
In the new period, he also hopes that teachers will continue to set an example, innovate methods, and lead students on the path of knowledge and personality.
Pioneering digital transformation, guiding students to use technology (especially artificial intelligence) creatively, effectively, safely and humanely.
Actively participate in policy contributions, working with the whole industry to improve quality and equity in education.
The General Secretary emphasized that the 80th anniversary of Uncle Ho's letter to students and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Education today is not only an occasion to review glorious traditions, but more importantly, to affirm determination:
We must build a modern, humane, and integrated Vietnamese education system, contributing to making the nation famous and bringing the country on par with the world powers.
"I call on the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army; all levels, sectors, localities; each family and each citizen - to join hands to care for the cause of educating people, for the future of our children, for the prosperity of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people," the General Secretary appealed.
