A statement on social media platform X (Twitter) stated: "President Bola Tinubu has ordered all ambassadors (diplomats or persons appointed by the President) around the world to return home."
However, Nigeria's Permanent Representatives to the United Nations in New York and Geneva are exempt from this summons in the context of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 75) scheduled to take place in New York from September 22-25.
Nigeria currently has 109 diplomatic missions worldwide, including 76 embassies, 22 high-level commissions, and 11 consulates.
President Tinubu, who has embarked on the country's boldest reforms in decades, is expected to hold talks with U.S. President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the General Assembly and also meet with leaders from Brazil, India, South Korea, and Germany at the upcoming G20 Summit.
