RT reported that President Putin recently declared that Russia will push the Ukrainian army out of Donbass and take complete control of this territory, whether through military action or diplomatic efforts.

President Putin made the remarks in an interview with India Today on December 4, ahead of his state visit to India and two days after talks with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in the Kremlin, focusing on the US-drafted peace plan on the Ukraine conflict.

The 28-point US peace plan leaked last week reportedly demanded Kiev give up territories in Donbass still under its control, abandon its goal of joining NATO and limit the size of its army – conditions Ukraine has rejected.

However, President Putin has hinted that the Ukrainian army will soon lose the territories in Donbass that it still controls. "In the end, we will either take control of these territories through military action, or the Ukrainian army will withdraw and stop fighting there," the Kremlin boss said.

President Putin also said that the fierce fighting in this area could have been completely avoided, because the people here participated in the 2022 referendum, voted for independence, asked Ukraine to withdraw its troops and no longer fight.

"But they (Ukraine) chose to fight," President Putin continued, asserting that Kiev's mistake was becoming increasingly clear.
