The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) has just sent a notice to the Department of Transport, the Department of Construction, and many relevant localities and units regarding the commencement of the tree relocation project for the Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) construction project.
This project will be located along Le Lai, Truong Dinh, Pham Hong Thai, Cach Mang Thang Tam, and Truong Chinh streets. These streets are in District 1, District 3, District 10, Tan Binh District, and Tan Phu District.
Ho Chi Minh City will cut down 404 trees affected by the Metro Line 2 project.
MAUR stated that the underground stations of Metro Line 2 are being constructed in densely populated residential areas. Therefore, within the station premises and adjacent to the station boundaries, there are many existing underground and aboveground infrastructure facilities, including green spaces.
The relocation and felling of trees also aims to facilitate the relocation of underground infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption to the daily lives and activities of residents.
According to MAUR, a total of 453 trees are affected by the Metro Line 2 project. Of these, 449 trees are managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Management Center, while the remaining 4 trees are managed by District 10.
These 453 affected trees include crape myrtle, Terminalia catappa, Ficus microcarpa, Dipterocarpus macrophyllus, Terminalia chebula, Sophora japonica, Dioscorea opposita, Ficus microcarpa, and Terminalia catappa. 404 trees will be cut down, and the remaining 49 will be relocated.
MUAR stated that this tree system needs to be handled in two phases. Specifically, phase 1 will involve the relocation and reconstruction of technical infrastructure. For some trees located within the excavation area for the new technical infrastructure construction, they will be cut down or relocated to make way for the infrastructure construction.
For existing trees located on the sidewalk within the station area that do not affect the construction of the technical infrastructure system, they will be temporarily retained to provide shade for the section of the route while awaiting the construction of the underground station, and measures will be taken to protect them during the construction process.
In phase 2, before the construction of the main station begins, all trees within the land acquisition boundary will be cut down or relocated. Trees outside the land acquisition boundary will be protected.
Phase 1 will be implemented starting in April and is expected to be completed by the end of July this year.
